House was involved in all this, attempting to cloak itself in plausible
deniability, which may be unwinding now, too. How might all this play
out from here?
One big mystery is how long will Mr. Trump wait to declassify any
number of secret files, memoranda, and communications that he’s been
sitting on for months. My guess is that this stuff amounts to a potent
weapon against his adversaries and he will wait until Mr. Mueller
releases a final report before declassifying it. Then, we’ll have a fine
constitutional crisis as the two sides vie for some sort of
adjudication. Who, for instance, will adjudicate the monkey business
that is already on-the-record involving misdeeds in the Department of
Justice itself? Will the DOJ split into two contesting camps, each
charging the other? How might that work? Does the Acting Attorney
General Mr. Whitaker seek indictments against figures such as Bruce Ohr,
Andrew McCabe, Peter Strzok, et al. Will he also rope in intel cowboys
John Brennan and James Clapper? Might Hillary find herself in jeopardy —
all the while on the other side Mr. Mueller pursues his targets,
characters like Mr. Manafort, Michael Cohen, and the hapless Carter

So Trump is all set to do his ban on “bump stocks.” Let’s look at a few aspects of this:
1 – This is not being done by legislation. It is being unilaterally done, dictator-style, by just declaring bump-stocks to fit within the definition of what is already “illegal,” in direct contrast to the DOJ’s own prior interpretation of the law, going back for decades. In other words, Trump is declaring that what the ATF and DOJ thought the law meant before wasn’t authoritarian and controlling enough. 4 – This is a violation of the Ninth and Tenth Amendments, since nothing in the Constitution gives the federal government any jurisdiction over such matters. 5 – This is a violation of the Second Amendment, as it constitutes federal legislation restricting the ability of the people to keep and bear arms. (Again, this certainly isn’t the first example of that, but Trump is continuing the authoritarian bullshit.)

I have followed China’s development, its stunning advance in forty years from impoverished Third World to a huge economy, its rapid scientific progress. Coming from nowhere it now runs neck and neck with the US in supercomputes, does world-class work in genetic engineering and genomics (the Beijing Genomics Institute), quantum computing and quantum radar, in scientific publications. It lags in many things, but the speed of advance, the intense focus on progress, is remarkable.
Recently, after twelve years away, I returned for a couple of weeks to Chungdu and Chong Quing, which I found amazing. American patriots of the lightly read but growly sort will bristle at the thought that the Chinese may have political and economic systems superior to ours, but, well, China rises while the US flounders. They must be doing something right.
In terms of economic systems, the Chinese are clearly superior. China runs a large economic surplus, allowing it to invest heavily in infrastructure and in resources abroad. America runs a large deficit. China invests in China, America in the military. China’s infrastructure is new, of high quality, and growing. America’s slowly deteriorates. China has an adult government that gets things done. America has an essentially absentee Congress and a kaleidoscopically shifting cast of pathologically aggressive curiosities in the White House.
America cannot compete with a country far more populous of more-intelligent people with competent leadership and the geographic advantage of being in Eurasia. Consider the current brouhaha over the Central American citizens who are trying to enter the United States to seek refugee status. They are fleeing their countries in an attempt to save their lives from violence and tyranny.
Conservatives object to that. They feel that those people should be forcibly returned to their countries of origin even if it means death for them.
But here’s the thing: The violence and tyranny is in large part due to the U.S. drug war and to U.S. foreign intervention in that part of the world, both of which conservatives have long supported and still support.
No one can deny that the drug war has ravaged and destroyed Mexico and Central America with drug gangs, drug cartels, massive violence, and official corruption.

Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to send a fact-finding mission to
the city. Evidently the rebels were responsible. The West’s reaction
has been surprising. Unlike in previous instances, the West has stayed
mum instead of creating an uproar after the attacks and blaming Syria
without any sort of thorough investigation to prove its guilt.
When
rebel-controlled areas came under chemical attacks, Western leaders
raised a hue and cry, but they more or less shrugged it off when
civilians living in Aleppo’s government-controlled areas became the
targets — shot by 120-mm mortars firing chlorine-filled rounds. The
shelling came from Idlib — the province where the remaining rebels are
based. There is no way the Syrian government troops could have been the
perpetrators. Nobody would believe a story claiming that they attacked
their own forces so deep behind their own lines. Russia and Syria are
proud of the fact they have established peace in Aleppo, and they have
no interest in disturbing it.
Neither
the US nor its comrades-in-arms — the UK and France — is launching
missile and air attacks to strike rebel-held positions in Idlib. And no

As Republican Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa, a frequent critic of DoD’s financial practices, said on the Senate floor in September 2017, the Pentagon’s long-standing failure to conduct a proper audit reflects “twenty-six years of hard-core foot-dragging” on the part of the DoD, where “internal resistance to auditing the books runs deep.” In 1990, Congress passed the Chief Financial Officers Act, which required all departments and agencies of the federal government to develop auditable accounting systems and submit to annual audits. Since then, every department and agency has come into compliance—except the Pentagon.

- Fane Lozman was arrested for alluding to government corruption during open comment time at a City Council meeting in Palm Beach County, Fla.
- Dan Heyman, a reporter for the Public News Service, was arrested for “aggressively” questioning Tom Price, the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services during an encounter in the West Virginia State Capitol.
- College professor Ersula Ore was slammed to the ground and arrested after she objected to the “disrespectful manner” shown by a campus cop who stopped her in the middle of the street and demanded that she show her ID.
- Philadelphia lawyer Rebecca Musarra was arrested for exercising her right to remain silent and refusing to answer questions posed by a police officer during a routine traffic stop. (Note: she cooperated in every other way by providing license and registration, etc.)
- Robert Bartlett was arrested during an Arctic Man festival in Alaska, allegedly in retaliation for refusing to be interrogated by police and intervening when police attempted to question other people. His case is before the U.S. Supreme Court.

CUFI is said to have invested heavily in ads based in Kentucky to target the senator’s constituents directly on the issue.
Paul, a proponent of ending U.S. aid across the globe, has had multiple confrontations with the pro-Israel community over the years as result of his views. Paul has sought to hold up U.S. aid to Israel multiple times over the years, creating friction between him and top U.S. pro-Israel lobbying shops.
“Sen. Rand Paul is blocking the U.S.-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act, S.2497,” CUFI wrote in a Monday morning email “action alert” to its millions of supporters across the country, including Paul’s home state of Kentucky. “This bill is the cornerstone of U.S. support for Israel. It ensures Israel has what it needs to fight terrorists like Hamas and Hezbollah, and keeps at bay tyrants like the leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
“Sen. Details of the actual incident in the Straits of Kerch between the Black Sea and the lesser Sea of Azof remain murky besides the fact that two Ukrainian gunships and a tug disobeyed orders from Russian ships to stand down in Russian maritime waters and shots were fired. Who knew that Ukraine even had a navy, and how can they possibly pay for it? But now NATO is trying to get into the act, meaning the USA will get dragged into just the sort unnecessary and idiotic dispute that kicks off world wars. Note to the Golden Golem of Greatness (aka Mr. Trump): this dog-fight is none of our goddam business. earlier i posted an article by deninger which i found interesting, and then i found this reply to his thoughts and think it also is worthy of your consideration;
Deninger, as usual when he gets outside his lane, is an idiot.
Nosocomial (hospital-acquired) infections are not billable to the patient nor the insurer, they are a liability assumed by the hospital/provider that caused them. Any other approach goes by the quaint legal term "fraud".
They've only beaten this into providers' heads for something like a decade or two, which is why doctors and hospitals are death on things like ordering indwelling urinary catheters, which are virtually guaranteed to cause the patient a UTI if left in long enough. It's the same reason leaving sponges or instruments inside people in surgery is an own goal: the doctor and hospital eat the cost of all subsequent care for the sequellae of that little foul-up.
And surgery centers are rightfully regarded both within the biz and outside it as the bounty hunters of the medical world, because they cut costs by cutting corners on patient safety, and hiring itinerant staff moonlighting from other jobs. If anything goes dreadfully wrong, they ship their mistakes to real hospitals to fix. No wonder they can undercut costs, because they've outsourced everything but the procedure itself; God help you if anything goes sideways, because they can't handle that, by design. Accidentally punctured a lung while doing a boob job? Ship 'em to the ER, then the real hospital OR, to sew up that "Oopsie". And no, they don't include that in their annual statement of average procedure costs. Ask me how I know.

tempting to think that the war on white people we see today is some

The biggest mystery in history remains how these cuddly, lovable people keep finding themselves in trouble. How can you not love them, when they love themselves so much? It’s truly baffling, and must have to do with medieval philosophizing of the Catholic Church.
Israel has several objectives. The first is American aid, of
several varieties, which it has. As long as it continues to get American aid
without conditions it can do stupid things for a very long time, damaging
Palestinians and Israel.
Another thing Israel wants is an economic relationship with
Europe and therefore it’s here that the EU has enormous leverage. If the EU
said: ‘So long as you break international laws, you can’t participate in the EU
market,’ this would be a huge issue in Israel, second only to losing American assistance.
Europe says: ‘We couldn’t do that. Remember what we’ve done
to Jews. We can’t use economic leverage against Israel. We can’t be a critic of
Israel; we pressure the Jewish state, because of Auschwitz.’ Europe can’t blame
someone else’s crimes to enable a state that commits its own crimes.
Israel has to become a normal state. Israel shouldn’t be
special because it’s Jewish. It should have no more rights than any other
country. It has to behave like a state; declare its borders, recognize
international law, and obey international treaties and agreements. Countries
have to behave towards it the way they would towards any other state that broke
those laws.
People will say: ‘Why
pick on Israel? What about other countries, which are much worse’, but that
neglects several things; Israel describes itself as a democracy and so it should
be compared with democracies. If Burma came to the EU and said, ‘we’d like privileged
trading rights with you,’ Europe would say: ‘First you have to release
political prisoners, hold inclusive elections, and open up your borders.’ We
have to say the same things to Israel. Otherwise we’re acknowledging that a
Jewish state is an unusual thing; a different thing that’s not to be treated
like every other state. It’s the European bad conscience that’s part of the
