i'm constantly amazed that 'consumers' don't realize how they're being played by 'our' government;
In today’s United States, the term “espionage” doesn’t get too much use outside of some specific contexts. There is still sporadic talk of industrial espionage, but with regard to Americans’ own efforts to understand the world beyond their borders, they prefer the term “intelligence.” This may be an intelligent choice, or not, depending on how you look at things.
First of all, US “intelligence” is only vaguely related to the game of espionage as it has been traditionally played, and as it is still being played by countries such as Russia and China. Espionage involves collecting and validating strategically vital information and conveying it to just the pertinent decision-makers on your side while keeping the fact that you are collecting and validating it hidden from everyone else.
In eras past, a spy, if discovered, would try to bite down on a cyanide capsule; these days torture is considered ungentlemanly, and spies that get caught patiently wait to be exchanged in a spy swap. An unwritten, commonsense rule about spy swaps is that they are done quietly and that those released are never interfered with again because doing so would complicate negotiating future spy swaps. In recent years, the US intelligence agencies have decided that torturing prisoners is a good idea, but they have mostly been torturing innocent bystanders, not professional spies, sometimes forcing them to invent things, such as “Al Qaeda.” There was no such thing before US intelligence popularized it as a brand among Islamic terrorists.
Most recently, British “special services,” which are a sort of Mini-Me to the to the Dr. Evil that is the US intelligence apparatus, saw it fit to interfere with one of their own spies, Sergei Skripal, a double agent whom they sprung from a Russian jail in a spy swap. They poisoned him using an exotic chemical and then tried to pin the blame on Russia based on no evidence. There are unlikely to be any more British spy swaps with Russia, and British spies working in Russia should probably be issued good old-fashioned cyanide capsules (since that supposedly super-powerful Novichok stuff the British keep at their “secret” lab in Porton Down doesn’t work right and is only fatal 20% of the time).

this guy is very energetic and always gets real interested in whatever he writes about. he never fails to speak his mind clearly and is frequently very accurate;
There's a meme going around called "Trump Derangement Syndrome" -- and certain "columnists" (cough-cough) are having a field day with it on social media. Never mind the apparent real reason some of them are doing it, which in reality has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with pumping some crazy scheme (like "blockchain" based wet dreams -- for them.) That's sort of like Whoopi being a salesperson for this diet scheme or that; gee, how's it worked out for 'ya chick -- other than cashing the checks, that is.
But the very people screaming about Trump being a Nazi, or whatever, are joined in their screaming by those on the other side of the aisle who are content to just sit and watch while proof of deranged, criminal, even felonious behavior is outlined time and time again by those in the government. Eric Holder (who is rumored to be a Presidential candidate) running guns to Mexican drug lords anyone? Or the now-well-documented ridiculous abuse of surveillance capabilities that are supposed to be limited to non-US concerns being weaponized against political candidates (which is illegal, I remind you.) Or the utterly-insane and nearly-universal violation of 100+ year old felony criminal law by an entire sector of our economy that comprises nearly one dollar in five spent today -- and not one indictment has been issued. Or how about the utterly outrageous "tax farming" firms like Tesla and Solar City, never mind the rather apparent insider dealing (which, I remind you, is supposed to be illegal too.) Or we can talk about the military and foreign policy scams; Oliver North was a piker compared with Obama and his billions sent on literal pallets of cash to Iran, never mind what appears to be $400 million given to Hillary by Russians during her campaign -- every dollar of it illegal, I remind you, since any sort of contribution from a non-US citizen to a political campaign is a federal offense.
The deranged on the right think Trump will fix it -- "just give him time" they say. There were supposedly threats made against him and his family, and this of course justifies not cleaning house -- right now. "Oh, he has to do it right or it will all go to Hell" is one of the more-frequently heard claims. Then there's insanity of those who believe in "Q" running around, and the believe in "tens of thousands" of "sealed indictments" for various things ranging from theft to pedophilia.
Give me a break folks.
