When we discuss the politics in countries who accept bribes and payments for influence in political decisions, we call that bribery and corruption. However, when the exact same activity takes place in Washington DC, we call it Lobbying. NASSCOM is now spending money to purchase U.S. politicians and look specifically about how they frame the discussion. (emphasis mine):

The immigration bill seeks to make work visas like H-1B more expensive and difficult to obtain for companies that already have a high proportion of their US staff on such visas. Infosys, for instance, is said to have almost 90% of their 15,000 employees in the US on such visas. If these visas become difficult to obtain, it will compel Indian IT companies to significantly alter their business models. They would either have to hire many more local Americans, which would be expensive, or find ways to do more of the work offshore, which would be difficult. Any such changes would put Indian IT companies at a disadvantage against their global competitors who have a strong local American presence. ........more..............

Somebody should tell the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps that the Strait of Hormuz is closed for business — American business, that is, and completely under control. President Trump has been saying so for weeks. On August 11 he informed the world by Truth Social that the United States has “total control” of the strait and “I THINK WE WILL KEEP IT,” the naval blockade a “wall of steel” against which “there is nothing Iran can do.” On August 14 he went further: “we own the Hormuz Strait,” letting boats through only “if we want them to come in,” and promised, with a chuckle, to soon declare the waterway a territory of the United States. As recently as three days ago the White House published a release titled “President Trump Was Right: America Controls the Strait of Hormuz,” a tidy chronology of the President assuring reporters the strait is open, functioning, and awash in oil.

The IRGC, evidently, does not subscribe to the newsletter. On Sunday, US forces struck two Iranian launchers on Larak Island — the first known American attack on Iranian soil since late July — because, a US official told Al Jazeera and Reuters, Guard units were observed preparing to fire rockets carrying sea mines into the strait the United States supposedly owns. One is left to wonder how Tehran plans to mine a waterway it does not control, into which it is not permitted to bring so much as a boat. The wall of steel, it seems, requires periodic bombing to stay upright.

Iran’s Tasnim agency called it a drone strike. The IRGC confirmed dead and wounded, soldiers and civilians, and promised to answer. The Washington Post and US News carried the same account within hours. Take the official rationale at face value and the strike is narrow, even routine: a counter-mining action to keep the strait open. Recently there have been striking new developments that imply major changes in the correlation of forces. These developments have largely gone unacknowledged and their implications unexamined. I made the effort in online interviews on Dialogue Works and On Target. I will now attempt to do so in writing.

One of the developments is Iran’s defeat of US President Trump’s attack on Iran. Trump has been desperate to find a way out of the conflict without admitting defeat. His exit strategy is to redefine the conflict from a military one to an economic one and impose new economic sanctions on Iran and those who trade with Iran, while claiming that the Strait of Hormuz is an American territory through which is moving massive amounts of oil shipments. The combination of a redefined conflict with propaganda comprises Trump’s exit strategy.

Another development is the announcement of a mutual security agreement between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan. This development combines conventional military force with oil reserves and nuclear weapons and unifies three separate Muslim ethnicities in a strategic location with a population of 355,390,000 people. These are largely Sunni Muslims.

Another development is the announcement on Iranian news media that Iran, predominantly Shia, has been invited to join the alliance. It true, this would indicate that the schism between Sunni and Shia is breaking down. It would also mean a pact of four countries with 448,700,000 people, larger than the United States, with conventional and nuclear power, a large chunk of the world’s oil reserves, and control over the strategic oil waterways. It would be a bloc of strategic importance to Russia and China as the Muslim four country pact is located such that it protects Russian and Chinese interests. the ceuta 'migrants' are getting feisty;

The ambush occurred while troops from the 54th Regular Group of Ceuta were conducting routine patrol duties. Dozens of illegal immigrants ambushed the patrol vehicle with a heavy barrage of rocks. The sudden intensity of the assault severely damaged the vehicle, shattering its windows and trapping the occupants inside.

Surrounded by a high volume of projectiles, the soldiers “feared for their lives,” according to statements later provided to investigators, as reported by Spanish newspaper El Debate. Four soldiers were left injured and officials told the press that sthe all-terrain logistical vehicles were not armored and not equipped to deal with such attacks.

Marco Antonio Gómez, president of the Association of Spanish Troops and Sailors (ATME), stated that the “very serious aggression” shows “our military is helpless.”

“They go without weapons. Our colleagues had to run away to save their own lives.”

Speaking to El Debate, military sources who are directly on the ground in Ceuta say that soldiers have their “hands and feet tied.”

Although the military is working with National Police, the situation remains dangerous.

My friend, Karl Miller, is out with a great piece that exposes Trump’s claims about Venezuelan oil as a massive case of gaslighting. I am summarizing his piece, which is titled,“Venezuela Oil: The Physical Barrel and the Capital Bill,” because it is not publicly available via a link.

On 27 August 2026, President Trump announced what he called the biggest oil deal in world history — a US–Venezuela agreement giving the United States majority control of more than 65 billion barrels of Venezuelan reserves, which he said would “substantially lower Gas Prices for all Americans.” The pitch landed with gasoline near $4.09 a gallon, about 27% higher than a year earlier and on track for the most expensive August on record, as a six-month Iran war and the Hormuz disruption kept a fifth of world supply under strain — and with the midterms two months away.

Independent analysts noted the arithmetic fails on that timeline: the 30 to 50 million barrels Trump floated is less than half a day of global consumption, the 65 billion is an in-ground estimate rather than available supply, and any price effect would take years. Miller’s briefing goes underneath that objection to the more fundamental one: Venezuelan crude is the wrong substance to fix the shortage Americans feel at the pump. It is not a magical fix. In the near term it is not a fix at all.
