Last night’s collision over the Potomac river between a Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines regional jet inbound to Washington Reagan National airport (DCA), which left 67 people dead, was a combination of a failure by an over-taxed air traffic controller (ATC) and an error by the US Army helicopter pilot. We learned today that a job normally performed by two ATCs, was being handled by one person:

A preliminary report from the Federal Aviation Administration states that staffing at the Reagan National Airport’s air-traffic control tower was “not normal for the time of day and volume of traffic,” according to the New York Times. The outlet reports that one controller was directing traffic for both helicopters as well as airplanes, work that is usually divided up among more than one person.

This was an accident waiting to happen. The communications with helicopters is on a different channel than those for fixed wing aircraft. Imagine you have two cell phones and are trying to talk to two different people at the same time. A recipe for chaos and, in this case, the death.

The ATC reportedly told the helicopter pilot to look for the inbound passenger plane. What the hell? The ATC should have noted the helicopter’s altitude and ordered him or her to immediately descend. That did not happen.

But the ATC is not the only one culpable. The pilot of the Black Hawk helicopter was flying at least 200 feet above the standard altitude for a helicopter crossing the Potomac river. US military helicopters are supposed to fly at 200 feet altitude. This helicopter was traveling north from Fort Belvoir, Virginina, which is 15 miles south by air. The crew on board were performing a continuity of government exercise, which is a plan for evacuating members of the Executive branch and Congress in the event of an imminent nuclear war or other emergency. I do not know what the flight plan was, but it appears it was headed to the Pentagon............more........

Update:  According to the latest information I have,  The J6 political prisoners in the D.C. prison have been released.  Kentucky is still holding one.  Everyone else released except for about 6 who are being held on unrelated state charges.

The release of the pardoned J6 political prisoners has, for the most part, gone well, but in a few instances vindictive Democrat officials still hold a few of the pardoned.  It is a fluid situation, and my figures might be out of date by the time you read them.

The worst offender is the black female mayor of D.C. who at last report has not released 12 of the pardoned.  Kentucky is still holding 6, and there are a few others being held here and there.  Democrats in Pennsylvania were looking for a way of duplicating the pardoned federal charges with state charges in order to continue the incarceration of the pardoned political prisoners. It is possible that some of the non released J6 political prisoners have outstanding state charges unrelated to the J6 fake charges.

It seems that at the time of Trump’s pardon there were 242 J6 political prisoners still in prison and a number I don’t have in halfway houses. .........more........

What in the world just happened at Reagan National Airport?  Like many of you, I was deeply distressed to hear of such a great tragedy that should have been so easy to avoid.  There is no way that we can bring back those that have died.  Many believe that if competent people were running things at Reagan National Airport, they would still be with us.  Others are entirely convinced that we aren’t being given the entire picture.  There are so many unanswered questions, and I am going to share quite a few with you in this article.

A massive search and rescue effort was underway after an Army Black Hawk helicopter collided midair with an American Airlines jet at Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia, on Wednesday evening.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet collided in midair with a Sikorsky UH-60 helicopter while on approach to Runway 33 at Reagan National Airport (DCA) around 9 p.m. local time.

PSA was operating as Flight 5342 for American Airlines, and it departed from Wichita, Kansas.

With all of the technology at our disposal, there is no way that something like this should happen.
