I've been waiting and watching and so far nothing good has unfolded. Drumpf's first term is nearly over and the washington swamp is still brimming with evil. Yet still I remain hopeful for some benefit. But even if he were to change anything for the better, it would be undone by the next oval office opportunist. And that is true for any of them. So you see, the problem is not about what this president or that president will or will not do, it is the whole of the corporate government machine. It is a self supporting, self serving, cancerous creation of the super wealthy who are only in that position because they are clever, greedy, cunning, convincing and totally evil. No decent man or woman can take any position within government ranks and make the permanent and necessary changes to make government serve us and not the super wealthy. Don't expect it to change for our benefit or you will be disappointed. We cannot vote in any solutions.

Whether Drumpf's intentions are good or not is beside the point. His authority and ability to steer the ship of state is limited. It is the aggregate of politicians under the dictates of the rulers that control the course. The ship must be sunk. Short of that , it will be business as usual.

During the George W Bush administration it was popular in conspiracy circles to speculate that events might be orchestrated which would allow the Bush family to complete a coup against the US Constitution and hold on to power indefinitely.

Such paranoia and suspicion of government power in the wake of the extraordinary post-9/11 advancements in Orwellian surveillance programs and unprecedented military expansionism were perfectly understandable, but predictions that the younger Bush would not cede power at the end of his second term proved incorrect. In today’s hysterical Trump-centric political environment we now see mainstream voices in mainstream outlets openly advancing the same conspiratorial speculations about the current administration, and those will prove incorrect as well.

What these paranoid presidential prognostications get wrong is not their extreme suspicion of government, but their assumption that America’s real power structures require a certain president to be in place in order to advance depraved totalitarian agendas. its a curious thing to watch as 'our free press' parrots the official point of view of the empire. we're told we invaded iraq for various reasons depending on how the previous reason was received, but when they demand we leave all of a sudden its not them but nefarious 'actors' that orchestrate the demonstration. in the empire there is official truth and all the rest are condemned as fiction;

We live in an era of protests. Everyone feels they have to fight to change things. Unless they are comfortable in their work routine, are wealthy and indifferent, or cannot risk getting fired.

There is manipulation and mobilization of protests by given political actors to achieve political goals.

There is genuine resentment and anger.

There are people who protest for a variety of reasons.

But what we cannot accept is a simplistic narrative that distorts reality, no matter where it comes from.

As a graduate of “fine western universities”, I gradually learned (and am still learning) to avoid simplistic, black-and-white arguments. Academics think in more complex ways, make more nuanced arguments. One of the greatest contributions of the western academic world to the third world was, arguably, the introduction of complexities. The educated mind (receiver of an education paid for in money), and a mind that was not in fear, could make nuanced arguments, offer thoughtful analysis, not fall into the trap of black-and-white thinking.

As one who grew up in a fundamentalist environment, whose thinking was rigid and conditioned by violence and tension, the western university landscape opened my horizons. In a US academic environment single-pointed arguments that lacked depth could appear somewhat uneducated, (and who wants to appear uneducated unless he uses it as a tactic to deceive his enemy?).

But now I am discovering that the west has embraced fanaticism and one-sided arguments. It has embraced the backward unthinking mentality that cannot tolerate dissent or doubts. This is the same mentality adopted by fanatics and extremists the world over.
