Close Putin Ally Warns of Nuclear ‘Dystopia’ If US Destabilizes Russia Like It Has Other Countries

The Russian invasion of Ukraine and growing calls for the US to intervene militarily has raised the specter of nuclear war

A close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin warned Wednesday that if the US destabilizes Russia like it has other nations, such as Iraq and Afghanistan, it would lead to a nuclear “dystopia.”

Dmitry Medvedev, a former Russian president and the current deputy of Russia’s security council, made the comments in a post on the Russian social media site VK.com. Medvedev said that since the end of World War II, the US has “constantly waged senseless wars” and left destruction behind without considering the consequences.

“For the past thirty years, Russia has been the target of the same mediocre and primitive game,” Medvedev said, according to a Google translation of his post. “This means that Russia must be humiliated, limited, shaken, divided and destroyed. How will this resonate in the near future in Europe and in the world as a whole? Never mind. Nobody ever even thought about it.”

Medvedev warned if the US destabilized Russia, it would lead to “the largest nuclear power with an unstable political regime, weak leadership, a collapsed economy and the maximum number of nuclear warheads aimed at targets in the US and Europe.”

Medvedev said once the US was done destroying Russia, it would move on to China next. “And then there are only a couple of steps left before the most severe global crisis, the energy and food collapse, the failure of all collective security systems and, soon, the Big Nuclear Bang,” he said.

Medvedev’s warning comes as the specter of nuclear war has been raised around Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the growing calls for the US and NATO to intervene directly. Ukrainian Volodymyr Zelensky and some hawks in Washington have been calling for the West to enforce a no-fly zone over Ukraine, which would require shooting down Russian planes and bombing missiles inside Russian territory.

A NATO-enforced no-fly zone means the US entering a direct war with Russia, which could quickly turn nuclear. Highlighting the danger of such a conflict, Putin ordered Russia’s nuclear forces to be put on “special alert” early on in the invasion. NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg warned Russia on Wednesday that “it can never win a nuclear war.”

Despite the danger, the US has not shown any signs of pushing for a diplomatic solution to the war. Instead, the US is pouring weapons into Ukraine, imposing sanctions with the intention of crushing Russia’s economy and joining NATO in a new military buildup in Eastern Europe. ...........https://news.antiwar.com/2022/03/23/putin-ally-warns-of-nuclear-dystopia-if-us-destabilizes-russia-like-it-has-other-countries/
