Let me remind you what Vladimir Putin said at the start of the Special Military Operation (SMO) in February 2022:

“The purpose of this operation is to protect people who for eight years now have been facing humiliation and genocide perpetrated by the Kyiv regime,” he said, according to an English translation from the Russian Mission in Geneva. “To this end, we will seek to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine, as well as bring to trial those who perpetrated numerous bloody crimes against civilians, including against citizens of the Russian Federation.”

Official Washington and most military analysts continue to ignore Putin’s words and insist that Russia’s goal was to capture all of Ukraine. As my old friend, Ray McGovern, repeatedly has emphasized over the past three years: pay attention to what Putin says.

Demilitarization entails two key objectives. First, ensure the safety of the Russian-speaking populations in Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporozhye and Kherson from attacks from Ukraine. Russia’s current position is much tougher than what it was prepared to accept in March 2022, when Russia and Ukraine reached a tentative agreement to end the SMO:

1. Ukraine would adopt a neutral status, abandoning plans to join NATO.
2. Ukraine would have limits placed on its military.
3. Western countries would be obliged to help Ukraine in case of future aggression against it.
4. Ukraine proposed security guarantees similar to NATO’s Article 5, with countries like China, Russia, UK, France, and Belarus potentially intervening militarily if Ukraine were attacked again.
5. The status of Crimea would be decided over a 10-15 year consultation period, with Ukraine promising not to attempt to retake the peninsula by force.
6. Discussions would be held on the status of Russian-occupied territories, with the possibility of a meeting between Presidents Zelensky and Putin to finalize these issues.
7. Russia agreed to “drastically reduce” military activity near Kyiv to facilitate further negotiations..........more.........

Philosopher C.S. Lewis once noted that it’s what slips from our mouths when we’re not thinking that reveals our hearts. This could come to mind with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s claim that those demanding an inquiry into child-abusing rape gangs are jumping “on a bandwagon of the far Right.”

Delivered at a Monday press conference, Starmer’s comments were in response to a firestorm of criticism ignited by entrepreneur Elon Musk. Musk had resurrected the rape-gang story via his X social-media platform mere days ago, as I reported this weekend.

The prime minister’s efforts at flipping the script appear to have backfired, however. That is, many critics say that implicit in his remarks is that child sex abuse is just a right-wing concern. History may inform that he’s not all wrong about that, either (more on this later). Also notable here is that this controversy is shaping up to be a classic Establishment/anti-Establishment conflict.

Battle Lines Are Drawn

For brief background, note the issue here: Muslim “rape gangs” had (have?) abused many thousands of British girls for decades. Just as damnably, British authorities have often covered this up in deference to political correctness. In fact, they sometimes put the onus on the white victims rather than blaming the (generally) Pakistani-descent perpetrators. Israeli military forces have moved to within 15 miles of the Syrian Capital of Damascus. The IDF has seized large tracts of land in southern Syria it intends to occupy and where it will eventually build checkpoints, military outposts and settlements. The “lightening” invasion has been accompanied by a massive bombing campaign that has obliterated numerous military bases, weapons depots and research labs eliminating any hope that Syria will regain the ability to defend itself or to reestablish its sovereign independence. For all practical purposes, Syria no longer exists; the persistent attacks of foreign enemies have left the country vanquished and splintered. The carve-up of the critically located nation-state has already begun.

At the same time the IDF is closing in on Damascus, US Forces along the Turkish border have started building a military base in the city of Kobani. The move is intended to provoke Turkey into a confrontation that will pit Washington’s Kurdish proxy militia against the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA). The situation is fraught with danger as it increases the likelihood that two NATO members will soon clash in northeastern Syria..........more........
