Canada’s Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently identified his country’s greatest threat: people freely speaking their mind. A new online harms law, if passed, could potentially enable judges to put people under house arrest if they’re viewed as likely to commit a hate offence.

You read this right. No actual crime would be required for this type of punishment.

Sadly, it’s part-and-parcel with the authoritarian response to free speech in Trudeau’s Canada. Streaming services were mandated last year to register with the government for regulatory controls, and appeals to exempt user generated content were rejected. Prominent author/psychologist Jordan Peterson was told he must go through social media training or lose his medical licence. And when the 2022 Freedom Convoy protested the totalitarian Covid restrictions, the Trudeau Liberals invoked the draconian Emergencies Act to break up the protests and freeze bank accounts.

Here’s the odd thing about this. There was a time, not too long ago, when Canada was regarded as a strong defender of free speech. Canadians viewed it as a cherished principle that protected democratic institutions, defended individual rights and freedoms, promoted intellectual discourse and encouraged free and open debate without fear of retribution or repercussion.

Few Canadians would have disagreed with former Prime Minister John Diefenbaker’s impassioned defence of free speech, either. “I am Canadian, a free Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship God in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, free to choose those who govern my country,” he said in Canada’s House of Commons on July 1, 1960. “This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.”

Despite my hope that Iran would “take a win” in repelling most of the Israeli cruise missiles launched on Saturday against Iranian military targets, it appears that Iran will hit back in the near future. I base that conclusion on these two recent statements from Iranian senior officials:

“In the coming days, you will witness another crushing blow to the Zionist regime.”

Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has told a news conference Iran is using “all available means to respond firmly and effectively” to Israeli strikes over the weekend.

The Israeli Knesset passed a bill on Monday, October 28, banning the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) in Israel and East Jerusalem.

The bill was introduced by two Knesset members, Canadian-born Dan Illouz from the Likud party and Ukrainian-born Yulia Malinovski from the Yisrael Beiteinu party. It was first passed by the Knesset’s Security and Foreign Affairs Committee in mid-October. The 120-seat Knesset voted on the bill on Monday in a final reading, with an overwhelming majority of 92 votes in favor and only 10 against, passing it into law. It is scheduled to enter into force in 90 days.

The law bans all UNRWA’s activities, including offering vital services to Palestinian refugees. It also bans all Israeli officials from communicating with UNRWA, orders the closure of its offices, and revokes all tax exemptions, diplomatic status, and entry visas to UNRWA and its staff.

The law specifically bans UNRWA’s activities “in the territory of Israel.” UNRWA’s activities are mostly in the West Bank and Gaza, and its main offices are in East Jerusalem, all of which are not part of Israel’s territory under international law. However, Israel annexed East Jerusalem in 1981, which makes the law applicable to UNRWA’s offices and facilities there.

However, Israel also effectively controls the West Bank and Gaza and treats the West Bank as part of its territory, although it hasn’t yet officially annexed it. In other words, what this law means for UNRWA’s main activities in these areas remains unclear..........more........

One of the issues highlighting internal political corruption of the FBI was always the absence of “whistleblowers” amid the rank-and-vile.  Indeed, there were a total of more than 40 FBI agents assigned to the Trump-Russia investigation; they all knew there was never any basis for the investigation itself.  They said nothing.

Well, apparently today, the Washington Times is reporting that an FBI whistleblower has recently come to congress to inform them that back in 2015 and 2016 then FBI Director James Comey triggered an off-the-books assignment for the FBI to infiltrate the Trump campaign.

As the story is told, in 2015 Director Comey told the FBI to send two female undercover informants into the Trump campaign to conduct surveillance and dig up information for use against him..........more.....
