The contrast between Israel and Russia on this point is the difference between black and white. Israel, without regard to the potential of killing and maiming civilians, is launching indiscriminate bombings inside Lebanon. Russia, on the other hand, has taken great pains to avoid killing civilians, by targeting military and infrastructure targets with precision missiles. If you count the civilians killed so far by Israel in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon, Israel has killed four times as many civilians since October 7, 2023 as has Russia, during two-and-one-half years of fighting in Ukraine. More than 40,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since Israel launched its war on Hamas following the group’s October 7 attack, the health ministry in the enclave said Thursday, yet another darkmilestone in the 10-month-old conflict.
