A mental health assessment of the Democratic Party suggests that
identity politics had lately turned into an identity crisis. Years of staying woke
finally produced hallucinations and violent outbursts. It was time to
medicate the patient. Enter, stage right, the Tranquilizer, smiling
Uncle Joe Biden, the perfect agent to quell an acute case of adolescent
rebellion.
Mostly, the rank-and-file don’t seem to know what to make of Uncle
Joe’s arrival on the scene. It’s as if they popped .5 milligrams of
Xanax a half an hour ago and all the intersectional strife that seemed
so urgent last month just up and flew out of the room, like so many
leaf-nosed bats from a frightful cave of winds. The chemical rush Uncle
Joe provides is reflected in his impressive polling numbers, lately
cresting near 40 percent against his closest pursuer, Bernie Sanders —
the reincarnation of my 10th grade math teacher, and hence a
figure of horror and loathing — at about 18 percent in the polls. The
rest of the presidential pack just slogs down-low through the sucking
muck of single digits. Many of these are women candidates in a party
determined to produce the first president of the female persuasion.
What’s up with that?
The salient psychodramatic feature of the Democrats’ relationship with Mr. Trump is that he represents Daddy’s in da house,
a situation so alarming as to provoke a nearly three-year-long fugue of
patricidal fury among his detractors. In fact, he’s an order of
magnitude worse than Daddy… he’s more like Ole Massa… living in that big White House… lumbering out the south portico in that terrible capitalist business suit… the very cutting edge
of oppression and misogyny. Of the Democratic women running for
president, so far only Elizabeth Warren has gone after Mr. Trump with
any real passion — and then, like some stereotypical housewife trying to
brain him with a frying pan. It just bounces off his thick skull, and
he moves on.
I call Mr. Trump the Golden Golem of Greatness for a reason (several
really) but mainly for his seemingly implacable demeanor. He’s exactly
like that folkloric figure from the mists beyond the Pale of Settlement,
an animate hunk of impassive clay communing with spirits of the dead,
blundering blindly about the land, scaring little children and turning
the peasants’ blood to ice-water. You might even say he was conjured up

It has been about a week since the Working Group on Syria, Propaganda and Media (WGSPM) published a leaked internal document from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) investigation into an alleged chemical attack in Douma, Syria last year. The document, whose authenticity the OPCW has confirmed, contends that the official story which was used to justify an air strike by the US, UK and France about poison gas being dropped on civilians from Syrian government helicopters is scientifically implausible, saying “In summary, observations at the scene of the two locations, together with subsequent analysis, suggest that there is a higher probability that both cylinders were manually placed at those two locations rather than being delivered from aircraft.”
The document, titled “Engineering Assessment of Two Cylinders Observed at the Douma Incident”, was signed by a man named Ian Henderson, whose name is seen listed in expert leadership positions on OPCW documents from as far back as 1998 and as recently as 2018. The OPCW hid this information from the public, for reasons it has yet to attempt to justify.
The fact that a longtime OPCW-trained investigator wildly dissented with the OPCW’s official conclusions within the OPCW’s own investigation should obviously have been made public knowledge, and this revelation should obviously have made headline news throughout the western media. Instead, it’s been completely ignored. Only a few alternative media outlets and the usual Russian publications have covered it.

China faces a threat to its agriculture that could do far more damage to her political stability and economy than the escalating USA tariff war. In recent months cases of deadly African Swine Fever (ASF) among the pig population of the world’s largest pig producer have forced drastic killing off of the pig population since cases were first detected last August. On top of that, more recently, Chinese grain producers have been hit by what can only be called a plague of a dangerous pest called “Fall Armyworms”, that devastates corn, rice and other grain crops. The combination hitting China as its leaders are in the midst of an escalating major trade war with the United States, could affect the world geopolitical map in ways few can imagine. .
Officially, the Chinese government appears to be responding with clear determination to take necessary measures to eradicate the deadly African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak. Beijing authorities claim that more than 1 million pigs to date have been killed. However, that has not prevented the pig contamination from spreading to all provinces of China and even beyond.
In the Chinese diet today pork is the main source of protein. China has the world’s largest pig population, over half, or close to 700 million swine. The problem is that African Swine Fever is highly deadly, almost 100% lethal to pigs, (though not, according to evidence, to humans). The disease is highly infectious which is why entire herds must be immediately destroyed and there is no medical cure known for it. The virus can exist on surfaces or in meat for days, even weeks.
In an April report the US Department of Agriculture predicted that China will have to kill 134 million pigs, equal to the entire US pig production. That would be the worst drop recorded since the USDA began monitoring in the mid-1970’s.
An April, 2019 research report by the Rabobank in Holland, a major world agriculture lender, estimates that actual ASF kills in China are significantly higher than the reported 1 million. They estimate that since initial outbreak in August 2018, deadly ASF has infected between 150 to 200 million of China’s pig population, some 100 times worse than the official numbers and has spread to every province in mainland China. The report states, “In 2019, we expect Chinese pork production losses of 25% to 35% in response to ASF. Reports of extreme losses (over 50%) are limited to confined areas.” The report adds, “These losses cannot easily be replaced by other proteins (chicken, duck, seafood, beef, and sheepmeat), nor will larger imports be able to fully offset the loss…this will result in a net supply gap of almost 10 million metric tons in the total 2019 animal protein supply.”
That is far more than official data suggest and, if true, will have drastic effect on not only animal prices, but could devastate millions of small China farmers unable to survive the losses. Accurate data are lacking as the Chinese pig production is dominated by small farmers where health security measures are more lax and contagion more likely.
Unfortunately, in a clear effort to calm the situation, the China Ministry of Agriculture issued a statement this January that there was no “ASF epidemic,” and that the government was taking adequate measures to bring the situation under control, this, though the disease had then spread to 24 mainland provinces. The suspicious timing of the reassuring statement was two weeks before the Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations, the time of the largest pig consumption of the year.
