“Letter from South Africa” this month examines the big issue of Trump’s tariffs affecting SA trade going forward. Trade, Industry and Competition Minister Parks Tau has told Parliament that South Africa has signed a key agreement with the US trade representative, days before new import tariffs are set to take effect.  The US plans to raise tariffs on most South African exports from 10% to 30% starting in August 2025, but key minerals like platinum and chrome are excluded.
