the backlash and automatic canned responses to the public shootings is predictable, and in most cases doesn't even to suggest it will solve anything, as the mass of 'consumers' just demand something be done, even if it isn't in any useful way, effective. from time to time the ignorant decide to burn some witches, and in this season its guns which all by themselves have been out murdering. one question that might be asked is why in recent years have we had these shootings, which never happened forty years ago;

Karl Denninger has a few words about the El Paso shootup. An excerpt: Go look in Mexico; there is exactly one legal gun store in the entire country and it takes months to get paperwork processed to buy one. Possession of even one firearm or one round of ammunition is good for a five year prison sentence there.
That does exactly zippo to prevent all those who want to murder from acquiring and using them in Juarez.
Since it is proved that just a few miles south the most-restrictive gun laws imaginable do exactly nothing to prevent hundreds of murders every year in that city alone no, I will not consent to any further infringement of the 2nd Amendment.

Here's a news item, from this past Sunday's Chicago Tribune: "7 shot in Lawndale’s Douglas Park". It's pretty much a short recitation of the facts with a bit of obligatory hand-wringing, done and done. No description of the victims from birth-to-this-morning, no dramatic manhunt, no helicopters overhead, no manifesto or high-falutin kozmik philosophizing.
Lest anyone think this shootup is unusual, this is also from the Chicago Tribune, on Saturday: "2 dead, at least 10 shot in pre-dawn city violence". Chicago's closure rate says chances are nine out of ten it will go unsolved. In news from elsewhere, "Detroit police: 7 shot, 1 killed, 1 robbed at gunpoint", and "13 Shot, 6 Killed in Baltimore since Friday", and all the others. Make of this what you will, I drew my conclusion a long time ago.

9/11 gave the Neocons the “right” to threaten, attack, bomb, kill, maim, kidnap, assassinate, torture, blackmail and otherwise mistreat any person, group or nation on the planet simply because “we are the indispensable nation” and “you either are with the terrorists or with us“ which might be contributing to the way things are seen in this land when it comes to shooting.

President Trump in 2018 defending the rights of his supporters, i guess, but opposing all legal expectations: "Take the guns first, go through due process second."

Trump has called for strengthened "red flag" laws in response to the latest shootings; Are we to believe "red flag" laws are intended for, say, Chicago's west side?.........https://nypost.com/2019/08/05/trump-condemns-white-supremacy-in-wake-of-mass-shootings/

  1. People seem to be more concerned HOW people are killed.
