People misunderstand the Bill of Rights. They were not designed to guarantee anything, support anything, they were supposed to be used as a gauge of tyranny. Those ten items suggested to a people that a proper government, a benevolent government would refrain from encroaching on those areas of an individual’s life. To the extent that a government cannot restrain itself from imposing on those areas, is the degree to which it is a tyrannical government.
