What a difference a week makes. Early last week, Donald Trump was calling Vladimir Putin, “crazy,” and claimed he was hitting Ukraine with drones and missiles on May 24 and May 25 without justification. Whether or not Trump was truly ignorant of the facts that provoked Russia’s attack that weekend or was pretending to be uninformed, remains a matter of dispute. That was then.

Now Trump and his team are singing a different tune. Let’s follow the timeline:

Following two Ukrainian terrorist attacks on bridges in Kursk and Bryansk — in the case of the latter, the bridge fell on a civilian passenger train and killed seven people — and Sunday’s drone attack on five Russian airfields that host Russian strategic bombers, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called US Secretary of State Marco Rubio late on June 1, 2025.

The sanitized State Department version claims that Lavrov wanted to discuss the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the forthcoming peace talks scheduled for June 2 in Istanbul. During the discussion, both officials reportedly examined various initiatives aimed at resolving the crisis and emphasized the importance of direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Secretary Rubio reaffirmed President Donald Trump’s commitment to supporting talks that lead to lasting peace and expressed condolences for the casualties resulting from recent attacks in Russian regions bordering Ukraine. If you have walked the deep political weeds with us, you will likely remember the warnings.  Thomas Massie, Chip Roy, Rand Paul and other fellow republican travelers will join with Elon Musk and the alligator emoji network to oppose President Trump as soon as they can get back into the minority.

There is an intention behind this alignment of interests, which includes the Tech Bros (and Sea Island), that ends with a Vance-DeSantis promoted effort in 2028.  The only thing standing in their way is MAGA.  As a result, MAGA must be fractured.

The money center behind the strategy is working on a learning curve.  Having failed with prior launches of similar approaches (ref. DeSantis ’23/’24), they are now doing much more proactive seeding.

Yeah, I know, I know; some will say I’m crazy.  I’m not. Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says uranium enrichment is the key to Iran’s nuclear issue, dismissing US proposals for Tehran to ultimately stop all enrichment in the country.

“The first word of the US is that Iran should not have a nuclear industry and should depend on the United States,” the Leader said in a televised speech from the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini in southern Tehran Wednesday.

“Our response to the US’ nonsense is clear: they cannot do a damn thing in this matter,” the Leader said as Iran marked the 36th anniversary of the passing of the founder of the Islamic Republic.

His remarks came after President Donald Trump on Monday evening looked to reaffirm his administration’s position when it comes to nuclear negotiations with Iran and said Tehran will not be allowed “any enrichment of uranium.”

US media reports said Tuesday the Trump administration is proposing an arrangement that would permit “limited low-level uranium enrichment on Iranian soil for a to-be-determined period of time.”

“Under the proposal, the United States would facilitate the building of nuclear power reactors for Iran and negotiate the construction of enrichment facilities managed by a consortium of regional countries,” The New York Times wrote. “Once Iran began receiving any benefits from those promises, it would have to stop all enrichment in the country.”.........more.......

How Well Does Russia Understand the West?

I raise the question in the title because the Russian media looks askance at what it labels “a rise in the popularity of right-wing forces” in “recent elections in three EU countries.”  The Russian media describes as “right-wing” the awakened ethnic nationalities–the French of France, the Germans of Germany–as “right-wing.”  But President Putin of Russia describes Russia as Russian, even though the Federation is comprised of different nationalities.  Putin stresses that whatever the ethnicities of the Russian Federation, all are Russian.  This is likely the case as the non-Russian ethnicities have been part of Russia for a very long time, whereas in the West the newly-arriving immigrant-invaders are proving to be unassimilable hostiles.

Putin doesn’t regard Russian ethnicity, an ethnicity extended to the Muslim provinces of the Federation such as Chechnya, as right-wing. So why does Russia regard European ethnic nationality “right-wing?”

The answer, I think, is that the American, European and British left-wing have conflated an ethnic consciousness that constitutes a national state with Nazism.  The Nazis were a socialist party, not a right-wing one.  But they were National Socialists which the left-wing contrasted with approved international socialism associated with the Soviet Union. Right-wing became anything to the right  of  Trotskyist International Communism. Nationalism was seen as a barrier to the spread of Communism, and thus it was evil..........more........
