Recently, I have been getting hammered with spam calls on my mobile
phone. These are robo calls for various scams. One that comes daily is
for some green energy scheme that promises to save me 50% off my
electric bill. Another is a call from “your credit card company” that
starts with “Don’t hang up.” I always hang up. The frequency of calls
has reached the point where I no longer bothering answering my cell.
I’ve turned the volume down to zero and check the log once in a while to
see if anyone I know called.
This is a recent issue. I’ve had the same number for a long time that
I registered with the do not call registry. I have no idea if that
works, but the lack of spam calls had me thinking it must have worked
until recent. Out of curiosity I went to the site for the FTC to see if
maybe that service had been discontinued. It turns out that it still
exists, but the web site is down, supposedly because of the government

i don't know what to say about this beyond the idea that indian treaties have regularly been ignored since the first one was forced upon a tribe, and this gets into the range of stupid bureaucracies;

During a 2014 hunting expedition, Clayvin Herrera and three other tribal members pursued a small herd of elk as it moved from the Crow Reservation in Montana to the Bighorn National Forest in Wyoming. There the hunting party “shot, quartered and packed” three elk, and carried the meat back to the reservation, dividing it among their families, according to court documents.
Wyoming game officials later tracked down Herrera and charged him with hunting off season and without a license. A state court convicted Herrera, and he was ordered to pay an $8,000 fine and give up hunting privileges for three years.
Herrera said the Second Treaty of Fort Laramie from 1868 — between the United States and Crow Tribe, before Wyoming became a state — expressly allows tribal members to legally hunt in unpopulated federal forest lands at any time.
The treaty, which established the tribe’s present-day reservation, states that members “shall have the right to hunt on the unoccupied lands of the U.S. so long as game may be found thereon, and as long as peace subsists among the whites and Indians on the borders of the hunting districts.”
Wyoming contends that the treaty only meant to afford “temporary” rights to hunt off the reservation and that when the state was created in 1890 those rights were terminated. The state also argues that President Grover Cleveland’s designation of the land as a national forest in 1897 effectively rendered it “occupied.”

“Endless Wars, especially those which are fought out of judgement mistakes that were made many years ago, & those where we are getting little financial or military help from the rich countries that so greatly benefit from what we are doing, will eventually come to a glorious end!”
The tweet was warmly received and celebrated by Trump’s supporters, despite the fact that it says essentially nothing since “eventually” could mean anything. Indeed, it’s looking increasingly possible that nothing will come of the president’s stated agenda to withdraw troops from Syria other than a bunch of words which allow his anti-interventionist base to feel nice feelings inside. Yet everyone laps it up, on both ends of the political aisle, just like they always do. Trump supporters are acting like he’s a swamp-draining, war-ending peacenik, his enemies are acting like he’s feeding a bunch of Kurds on conveyor belts into Turkish meat grinders to be made into sausages for Vladimir Putin’s breakfast, when in reality nothing has changed and may not change at all.
