We can pretend that the Constitution, which was written to hold the government accountable, is still our governing document.
The reality we must come to terms with, however, is that in America we live in today, the government does whatever it wants, freedom be damned.
“We the people” have been terrorized, traumatized, and tricked into a semi-permanent state of compliance by a government that cares nothing for our lives or our liberties.
The bogeyman’s names and faces may change over time (terrorism, the war on drugs, illegal immigration, etc.), but the end result remains the same: our unquestioning acquiescence to anything the government wants to do in exchange for the phantom promise of safety and security.
Thus, in the so-called named of national security, the Constitution has been steadily chipped away at, undermined, eroded, whittled down, and generally discarded to such an extent that what we are left with today is but a shadow of the robust document adopted more than two centuries ago.
Most of the damage, however, has been inflicted upon the Bill of Rights—the first ten amendments to the Constitution—which historically served as the bulwark from government abuse.
A recitation of the Bill of Rights—set against a backdrop of government surveillance, militarized police, SWAT team raids, asset forfeiture, eminent domain, overcriminalization, armed surveillance drones, whole body scanners, stop and frisk searches (all sanctioned by Congress, the White House, the courts and the like)—would understandably sound more like a eulogy to freedoms lost than an affirmation of rights we truly possess.
Here is what it means to live under the Constitution today.

While driving yesterday, I turned on the car radio to see if the Russian/Syrian liberation of Idlib, Syria, from the Washington-supported terrorists had begun. What I got was two white females deploring white racism on NPR. They were so guilty that they had indirectly benefitted from white racism. I thought I was going to drown in the guilt of one of the females before she ever finished her sentence.
You are not going to believe the “indirect benefit” that produced such wrenching guilt in the white female. But maybe you will. She had purchased a brick bungalow Identical to the one next door in which a black American lived with the difference that the attic in her house had been refurbished, but the black man’s attic had not. Her racial guilt came from the fact that the white person from whom she had purchased the house had been able to refurbish the attic, but her black neighbor had not, apparently because of racism.
Does this seem like a reasonable explanation for wallowing in racial guilt? I can think of many better ones that go unmentioned in the presstitute media. For example, as Eric Zuesse reports, Saudi Arabia, the puppet state that Washington has sicced on Yemen, is “systematically blocking food from reaching tens of millions of people, Houthis, who live in Yemen and are surrounded by the U.S. alliance’s engines of death.” The Houthis are being starved to death because they wanted a government of their own, not one imposed by Washington.
One wonders at the extremely limited definition of racial guilt that the two white women on NPR found so difficult to bear: The black neighbor had a house just like hers only his attic wasn’t refurbished, a sign of racism that she felt guilty about.
How would such emotional and intellectual weaklings, as these NPR women, bear the US-enforced starvation of ten million people in Yemen currently underway, the destruction in whole or part of 8 countries under the criminal Clinton, George W. Bush, and Obama Regimes, now extending into the Trump regime. How could these guilt-burdened women bear the Israeli state’s systematic genocide of the Palestinians?

Of course, proof, facts, evidence are no longer of any consequence in the Western World. Transparently false accusations can be leveled without any evidence provided, and the lie becomes a fact. “Russiagate” is a perfect example.

i don't think it could be made any more clear than this illustration;

we constantly hear on the tv how horrible 'our' opponents are and how wonderful the land of the 'free' is but then when you consider it all and do a bit of investigation you can question, if you can find your mind, what you're sold on that tv;

In America the Establishment consists of the private interest groups; the financial sector, the military/security complex, the Israel Lobby, extractive industries, and agribusiness. They write the laws that government enacts. Political party in-groups serve these interests in exchange for large campaign donations. The two political parties in the Empire compete to be the whore of the private interest groups. The majority party can do more favors and thus get more benefits.

Europeans are responsible for the American Empire. Europeans bought into the Cold War, and assigned their defense and foreign policy to America. Europeans haven’t had an independent foreign policy since WW II and are vassal states of the American Empire taking their orders from Washington. No European “leader” is independent of Washington’s control.

All evidence shows, Russia has threatened no country. Russia appeals endlessly to international law without effect. Washington’s position is that Washington, as the “exceptional country,” is above all law, both international and domestic.

Washington wants to overthrow Syria because its an independent country, opposes Israel and isn’t the Empire’s puppet. Ukraine historically is part of Russia. By overthrowing the Ukrainian elected government and installing Washington’s puppets, Washington brings troubles to Russia. Like China, Russia is a constraint on Washington’s hegemony, and the destabilization of these constraints is the driving force of Washington’s foreign policy. Washington’s captive European puppet states accommodate Washington’s drive to war with Russia and China. The war will be nuclear and will terminate life on earth.

Our ancestors violently stole this land from its original inhabitants. We’re the occupying descendants telling everyone how peace loving we are while we’ve been at continual war ever since Jamestown. “Consumers” trade the reality of freedom for the illusion of safety because our “schools” have trained them in organized ignorance. To maintain “our way of life” we lie to ourselves and each other. Those who burned “witches” thought they were doing good deeds.

Previous generations believed women and non-whites were intellectually inferior and went unchallenged in that. If you challenged that idea you were ostracized.

Torture is wrong, except when we do it. Transparency is important except when it reveals things we don’t want known. Human rights are important unless it the empire in action. International law must be enforced, except when it’s the empire acting.

Vote for nobody. Nobody will keep their promises. Nobody cares. Nobody tells the truth.
