Nothing has entered Gaza for more than 50 days. Charity kitchens are warning they are only days away from shuttering services. Two million people on the brink. We are currently witnessing Israel’s solution to the Gaza question—an unmistakable humanitarian crisis engineered by the Israeli government to remove from its borders an entire people it has deemed the equivalent of locusts. 

"No one cares about us," stated an emaciated man in the ruins of Gaza this week. Women and children with pots outstretched beg for crumbs. Families survive on one meal a day. Trash, sewage, and disease overwhelm the 25-mile long Gaza strip. “The scene we come across every morning, hundreds of people queue for long hours, waiting with empty pots and pans, clamoring to get food for their families back in tents or displacement sites,” reported Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud on Tuesday. “Many of them are scouring piles of garbage to get trash to start fires in order to cook or to keep family members warm during the nighttime.”

“Utter desperation” read the headlines out of Gaza this week. “Civilians are being attacked in incessant military violence,” reported Gavin Kelleher with the Norwegian Refugee Council. “People are selling their belongings, they're selling their clothes to get access to cash to get food. People are trying to sell diapers for a bag of lentils. Begging is overwhelming at this point.” Nothing is getting through. One of the great famines of the 21st century is happening before our eyes in real time. The bombings continue unabated. Since March, nearly 600 children have been killed in the Gaza region. Another 1,600 wounded have been sent to hospitals where medical supplies are running thin with no relief on the way.

On Tuesday, at least 10 human beings were wiped from this earth in a center housing displaced families. On Wednesday, Israeli airstrikes destroyed a school and hospital in Gaza claiming the lives of 39 people. “Are these terrorists?” screamed a distraught man standing over a dead body in the aftermath. “Are these the ones threatening you, Netanyahu? Are these the ones shooting rockets?” In response to the killings, the Israeli military argues it is targeting “militants.” ...........more..........

For 18 months, and especially since Israel closed the Gaza crossings in early March – banning the entry of necessary medications, medical equipment, food and fuel – the level of catastrophic malnutrition for pregnant and postpartum women and their newborns has risen sharply.

This is compounded by the systematic destruction of reproductive, prenatal and maternity care by Israeli forces – which a recent United Nations Commission of Inquiry press release said amounts to “two categories of genocidal acts in the Rome Statute and the Genocide Convention, including deliberately inflicting conditions of life calculated to bring about the physical destruction of Palestinians and imposing measures intended to prevent births.”

In December 2023, Israeli forces targeted and destroyed the largest fertility clinic in Gaza.

More than 4,000 frozen embryos and 1,000 sperm samples and unfertilized eggs were destroyed in the attack.

The UN commission stated that the attack was intentional.

In January, Al Mezan, a human rights group in Gaza, released a report examining the “near-total disruption of maternal healthcare directly caused by Israel’s destruction of hospitals, clinics and pharmacies, compounded by the lack of medical supplies, equipment and electricity.”

Women, the group states, “especially pregnant and nursing mothers, are deprived of critical antenatal, postnatal and obstetric care, as well as essential nutritional support and hygiene products, putting their lives at grave risk.”............more..........

Political warfare in Washington is endemic. But the body count at the Pentagon has started to rise precipitously. Three of Secretary of Defence Hegseth’s top advisors were placed on leave, and then fired. The war continues, with the Secretary now in the firing line.

Why this matters is that the Hegseth attrition comes amid fierce internal debates in the Trump administration about Iran policy. Hawks want an definitive elimination of all Iran’s nuclear and weapons capabilities, whilst many ‘restrainers’ warn against military escalation; Hegseth reportedly was amongst those warning against an intervention in Iran.

The recent Pentagon dismissals have all been identified as restrainers. One of the latter, Dan Caldwell, formerly Hegseth’s Top Adviser and an army veteran, wrote a post slamming the ‘Iran Hawks’ – and subsequently was fired. He was later interviewed by Tucker Carlson. Notably, Caldwell describes in scathing terms America’s wars in Iraq and Syria (“criminal”). This adverse sentiment concerning America’s earlier wars is a rising theme, it seems, amongst U.S. Vets today.

The three Pentagon staffers essentially were fired, not as ‘leakers’, but for talking Hegseth out of supporting war on Iran, it would appear; the Israeli-Firsters, have not given up on that war.

The inflamed fault lines between hawks and traditionalist ‘Republicans’ bleed across into the Ukraine issue, even if the faction membership may alter a tad. Israeli-Firsters and U.S. hawks more generally, are behind both the war on Russia and the maximalist demands on Iran.

The nerds who brought us the digital revolution did so without any thought to the obvious consequences.  Americans addicted to scrolling their cell phones and enjoying social media are suffering from the numerous threats that the digital revolution brings to them.  Not just government spying on them and, if government wishes, setting them up for prosecution.  Not just from being dispossessed of their identity and left with massive bills.  Not just from theft of their bank and retirement accounts. The digital revolution allows thieves to steal our homes.

To protect yourself from the easy theft of your home, you should sign up for a notification alert at the registry of deeds, which will alert you when a document is recorded for your property.  You are most vulnerable if your property is debt free with no mortgage.  If you have no mortgage, take out a small one as your property cannot be transferred from your ownership until the mortgage is paid, if my understanding is correct.  So having to clear a mortgage provides you with a warning that your home is in the process of being stolen.

China is normally the largest export market for U.S. agricultural products.  In a typical year, we sell tens of billions of dollars worth of agricultural products to the Chinese, but now that door has been slammed shut thanks to the extremely high tariffs that China has imposed on U.S. imports.  If that door is not reopened very soon, farmers all over the nation will be facing financial ruin due to massive financial losses that are already piling up.  This is not a crisis that may or may not arrive someday.  As you will see below, this is a crisis that is already here.

More than 1.4 billion people live in China.  We send them massive amounts of soy and pork in a normal year, and that has been a very profitable arrangement for U.S. farmers.  Unfortunately, demand has dried up due to the trade war, and this has thrown the U.S. agriculture industry into a state of chaos…

Soy has been severely impacted, with a 125% tariff imposed by China causing a steep decline in exports. Although recent comments from Trump hint at possible tariff reductions, prices for soy derivatives like tofu and animal feed have already climbed. Pork exports have suffered from tariffs reaching up to 72%, leading to higher domestic prices for bacon and pork chops. Dairy products, including cheese and milk, have seen prices spike after China and Mexico introduced new tariffs, affecting popular varieties like cheddar and mozzarella............more..........

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced Saturday the agency and state law enforcement in Florida have arrested nearly 800 people over four days in a “massive, multi-agency immigration enforcement crackdown.”

ICE’s office in Miami calls the “highly successful” operation “a first-of-its-kind partnership between state and federal partners.”

CNN has reached out to ICE for more details about who was arrested, their legal status and the scope of the operation.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis hailed the operation as “an example of FL and (the Department of Homeland Security) partnering to deliver big results on immigration enforcement and deportations,” according to a statement on X.

“Florida is leading the nation in active cooperation with the Trump administration for immigration enforcement and deportation operations!” DeSantis wrote in a separate post Saturday.

The Department of Homeland Security highlighted the collaboration between federal and local law enforcement, dubbed “Operation Tidal Wave,” in a news release Monday.

This kind of collaboration is “a preview of what is to come around the country: large scale operations that employ our state and local law enforcement partners to get criminal illegal aliens off our streets,” DHS said...........more.........
