I was born in 1944, in the final year of the Second World War (WWII). In my early childhood I lived in its shadow. We were poor, everybody we knew was poor. Food was scarce and some items were rationed until 1954. We children were taught that a famous victory had been won by the Allies, defeating the warmonger fascist Nazi Hitler and thus establishing world peace.

In recent months, however, I have been driven to re-examine that proposition. Firstly, I found a copy on an internet archive of AJP Taylor’s Causes of the Second World War, which when published in 1961 caused a rumpus.

Taylor’s thesis was that Hitler was not the demoniacal figure of popular imagination but in foreign affairs a normal German leader. Citing Fritz Fischer, he argued that the foreign policy of Nazi Germany was the same as those of the Weimar Republic and the German empire. Moreover, in a partial break with his view of German history advocated in the Course of German History, he argued that Hitler was not just a mainstream German leader but also a mainstream Western leader. As a normal Western leader, Hitler was no better or worse than Gustav Streseman, Neville Chamberlain or Edouard Daladier. His argument was that Hitler wished to make Germany the strongest power in Europe but he did not want or plan war. How the Western World Became a Tower of Babel

Nations are turned into towers of babel via immigration.  A nation has a homogeneous population–French, German, Dutch, English, Italian, Spanish.  Initially, the English colonies that became the United States were English. Over time (until 1965) the US accepted immigrants from other European countries–Irish, Poles, Germans, Dutch, Italians, Scandinavians. The immigration system turned these immigrants into Americans, essentially Englishmen, as English views of law, politics, and history were inherited by the English colonies that became  the United States. Immigrants had to learn English, pass a test on the Constitution, and be turned into Americans, an amalgam of white European ethnicities.

It was easy to turn Europeans into Americans.  All Europeans shared mores based in Christianity.  Their histories were interwoven. All had an aristocratic heritage. However dishonorable some individual aristocrats might have been, for the aristocratic class honor was a meaningful concept that restrained dishonorable tendencies.  

Aristocratic mores filtered down into the population. They were still present in Britain in the 1960s when I was a student at Oxford University. There was no assurance that people would behave correctly, but there were no excuses for those who did not. ........more..........

MAGA-Americans and Christian Zionists should certainly read it.  How can America be made great again when the president with whom that function is associated not only supports Israel’s genocide of Palestine but actively enables it with weapons, money, and diplomatic protection.  

Ask yourselves if a country can be great when its president is subservient to Netanyahu, certainly an evil person, when the country’s population has been indoctrinated that all Palestinians are terrorists, and when evangelicals praise Israel for destroying a people declared enemies and justifying it as God’s will.  If murder is God’s will, why did he hand down a commandment prohibiting it?  

Israeli has gone far beyond King Herod’s order to massacre all children as told in the Gospel of Matthew.  Israeli soldiers themselves report that they are ordered to shoot babies in the head along with their mothers who are standing in line in aid stations for a bit of food and water.

With the Trump administration under fire from angry conservatives demanding the release of the federal government's information about Jeffrey Epstein, increasing attention is turning to a trove that's in private hands: Steve Bannon's 15+ hours of videotaped interviews with Epstein.

The interviews took place between 2018 and 2019. That's prior to Epstein's July 6, 2019 arrest on sex-trafficking charges that eventually led to his death in a New York City jail, but after the Miami Herald put a new spotlight on Epstein's manipulation of the criminal justice system after he was first investigated for sex crimes with underage girls in 2005, with the Herald tracking down scores of his victims. 

In 2021, a trailer was released promoting an upcoming, Bannon-co-produced documentary called, "The Monsters: Epstein's Life Among the Global Elite." The trailer includes snippets from the interviews. When was the last time you heard of federal dollars flowing into overtly conservative programming?  While there may be a tiny handful of outliers, generally speaking this does not happen.  For decades the majority of public funding subsidies for social programs inevitably goes to progressive run organizations.  For anyone who is right leaning in their politics, the idea of their hard earned money being handed over to people who hate them and everything they stand for is disconcerting. 

Why should conservatives support federal funding if that money is being used to propagandize them and indoctrinate their children?  Why isn't there any requirement for publicly funded programs to remain politically neutral? 

The U.S. Senate this week passed the Trump administration’s proposal to cancel $9 billion in federal funds previously allocated for foreign aid and public broadcasting, and the House of Representatives approved the package after midnight Friday, sending it to President Trump’s desk. 

The Corp. for Public Broadcasting, which administers the funds for NPR radio stations and PBS TV affiliates, is on track to lose $1.1 billion that had previously been budgeted for the next two years............more..........
