The intransigent European Union is hitting a dead end with immovable Trump on the issue of tariffs. The resulting dynamic is what we would expect given 75 years of the Marshall Plan (European Recovery Plan) as part of the EU’s only point of reference.
In order for the EU to maintain its socialistic form of government, it needs to continue the economic benefits from one-way tariffs that exploits the American consumer market. President Trump’s plan to force reciprocity is against its entire economic foundation. The EU simply cannot fathom life without the status quo.
In many ways the EU is in the same position as Canada. From its perspective, economic reciprocity is not sustainable; it would have to change its social compacts. This is the core of the conflict.
The EU trade delegation hit a brick wall in Washington DC, as the U.S. trade team reiterated the baseline tariffs are not something within the negotiation dynamic.

It is a Great Bill but, unfortunately for Elon, it eliminates the ridiculous Electric Vehicle (EV) Mandate, which would have forced everyone to buy an Electric Car in a short period of time. I have been strongly opposed to that from the very beginning. People are now allowed to buy whatever they want – Gasoline Powered, Hybrids (which are doing very well), or New Technologies as they come about – No more EV Mandate. I have campaigned on this for two years and, quite honestly, when Elon gave me his total and unquestioned Endorsement, I asked him whether or not he knew that I was going to terminate the EV Mandate – It was in every speech I made, and in every conversation I had. In 1995, the U.S. Department of Agriculture approved the first Bt maize and glyphosate-tolerant soybean, opening the way for large-scale cultivation of GM crops.
The promises came thick and fast: GMOs would feed the world, reduce chemical use and save children from malnutrition. Thirty years on, GM crops occupy just 13% of global arable land and are largely concentrated in a handful of countries. Most of the promises remain unmet.
Bigger yields, fewer chemicals?

The Israeli army has carried out over 26 massacres in less than 48 hours, killing more than 300 Palestinians across the Gaza Strip, the local Government Media Office said on Thursday.
According to the office, the latest attacks targeted densely populated areas, including shelters, displacement centres, leisure spaces, homes, markets, hospitals and aid distribution points.
“The majority of the martyrs are women and children – all unarmed civilians – reflecting the occupation’s deliberate targeting of the most vulnerable groups,” the office said.
Since dawn on Thursday alone, at least 73 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes across the besieged enclave, 33 of whom were seeking humanitarian aid, according to Al Jazeera.
The Palestinian health ministry confirmed that 118 people were killed on Wednesday and 142 the day before.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs warned on Wednesday that the more than 600-day war on Gaza has led to a critical shortage of burial space............more.......
