 this is another one of those 'ricks cafe' moments when one entity i don't like, the un, opposes another creature i don't like even more, who finds that the agency is swimming with fishes;

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) is now in a full and very public international diplomatic fight with the Israeli government, as well as the United States and new Trump administration.

Israel has just announced that it will cut all contact with UNRWA and any other body acting on its behalf. The UN envoy for the organization was the first to reveal the Israeli statement. The UN has also said that Washington is supportive of Israel's new ban.

But at a moment some 300,000 Palestinians have returned to their homes in largely destroyed northern Gaza, as videos have demonstrated, the UNRWA has said Israel’s impending ban on the agency is "harming the lives and future of Palestinians" and could serve to thwart the ongoing ceasefire agreement with Hamas as the change is "jeopardizing any prospect for peace and security."

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is demanding that Israel retract its order for the relief agency to leave its main office in Jerusalem.

"I regret this decision and request that the Government of Israel retract it," he wrote in a letter issued Monday, underscoring the "irreplaceable nature". The UN also doesn't recognize Israel's longtime claims of sovereignty over East Jerusalem where the UNRWA office is headquartered.

Like other local or regional UN relief agency offices, the UNRWA recruits from the local population, meaning that in Gaza and the West Bank, its local staffers are made up mostly of Palestinians............more.........

In 1904, Sir Halford Mackinder, director of the London School of Economics, gave a presentation at the Royal Geographical Society that proved to be influential. “The Geographical Pivot of History” posited a World-Island: Africa Asia, and Europe, the “heartland” of which stretched from the Persian Gulf to the Siberian Sea. Mackinder later summarized his thesis: “Who rules the Heartland commands the World-Island. Who rules the World-Island commands the world.” This would become a key tenet of Britain’s foreign policy until the end of World War II. It was largely responsible for the destruction of its empire. At that point, the intellectual baton was passed to the American empire, to which it will do the same.

The problem for both British and American imperialists is that their countries are peripheral to this Heartland of the World-Island, while Russia and China are the biggest part of it. In the nineteenth century, Britain’s peripheral position was overcome by maritime and industrial prowess. Britain’s navy was the linchpin of the empire. Its shared position with the U.S. as an Industrial Revolution leader bolstered its power and led to the relentless drive for resources that was an impetus for the empire’s growth.

John Maynard Keynes once wrote: Practical men who believe themselves to be quite exempt from any intellectual influence, are usually the slaves of some defunct economist. The U.S. intellectual and political establishment are slaves to a defunct geopolitical scientist, Mackinder. That’s not to suggest that his World-Island and Heartland aren’t important, but rather to challenge the quasi-religious belief that the U.S. can subjugate and control them. It can’t, and how well it adopts to that reality will determine how the rest of the 21st century and beyond goes for the U.S..........more.......

 i remember a quote that went something like: there are years where nothing happens and days where years happen. it seems like we've been having multiple days where years happen recently and i'm not sure i could put an accurate point on a calendar when it began, but if true this post would qualify as a biggie;

Tucker Carlson has unleashed international controversy this week when in an interview with journalist Matt Taibbi, Carlson claimed that former Secretary of State Antony Blinken had pushed for a “real war” with Russia and that the Biden administration sought to “kill Putin.”

The former Fox News host described the plot as madness and insanity on the part of the prior Democratic administration. However, Carlson didn’t offer specifics or any evidence. Carlson stated firmly that the Biden White House “was pushing so hard for a real war, trying to kill Putin, for example… The Biden administration did [it], they tried to kill Putin.” Watch the clip with Carlson and Taibbi:.............more.........

 i haven't even tried to read this but post it in case you have the time, as you'll see its very long. gmo farming and glyphosate have been facts of life here in the empire for a long time and here is some evidence on the 'costs' and results;

Story at-a-glance

  • Glyphosate has become the most widely used herbicide in history, with usage increasing 100 to 300-fold since the late 1970s, resulting in its presence in 60% to 80% of the general population through food, water, and air exposure
  • Research has shown glyphosate can accumulate in the kidney, liver, colon, and brain, cross the blood-brain barrier, and has been found in human breast milk, indicating it doesn’t simply get excreted as claimed
  • A two-year study found that exposure to Roundup (a glyphosate-based herbicide) at doses far below permissible levels caused organ damage and increased tumor incidence, particularly mammary tumors in female test subjects
  • Glyphosate has been identified as an endocrine disruptor, showing eight out of 10 key characteristics associated with endocrine-disrupting chemicals, and can affect future generations through epigenetic changes
  • Studies show switching to an organic diet can reduce urinary glyphosate levels by about 71% within six days, with the highest sources of exposure being conventional grains, processed foods, and the “Dirty Dozen” produce items..............more........

 what do you do when you find your kid doing what you told them not to and hiding it;

We’ve recently reported how many gun owners and gun-rights groups are urging President Donald Trump to eliminate the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Now, the agency has provided yet president another reason to consider that action.

A federal lawmaker is accusing ATF leaders of attempting to circumvent President Trump’s executive order to ban diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. According to a report from thenationaldesk.com, U.S. Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Missouri, stated that the ATF changed a job title to skirt the ban instead of eliminating a DEI position within the agency as directed by the president.

According to Burlison, that is yet another reason the agency should be eliminated, rather than reformed as some suggest.

“The ATF defied @realDonaldTrump’s order to place DEI workers on leave, instead giving their DEI officer a new title,” Burlison wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “They attack citizens’ rights, ignore leadership and act as though they’re above the law. Enough is enough. Time to abolish the ATF!”..........more.......
