US corporate media have buried coverage of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange’s extradition hearing in the UK, despite its being the media “Trial of the Century” (FAIR.org, 9/25/20). But even in the scarce coverage that does exist of this unprecedented case with immense implications for freedom of expression, one would hardly get the impression that the US and British governments are involved in an illegal conspiracy—in violation of their own laws—to punish Assange for the “crime” of journalism.

Coverage before and at the start of the trial by establishment media outlets like the New York Times (9/7/20), Wall Street Journal (9/7/20), USA Today (9/6/20) and the Associated Press (9/6/20) largely omitted simple facts, like Assange displaying signs of abuse. Of these reports, only USA Today cited Nils Melzer, a UN special rapporteur on torture, who observed that when he visited him last year, Assange displayed symptoms of “psychological torture,” likely caused by extreme stress, chronic anxiety and isolation.

AP framed Assange’s visible and prolonged abuse at the Belmarsh maximum security prison in London and the Ecuadorian embassy—where he sought asylum for seven years—in a partisan way, presenting it as a charge of his “supporters” rather than the judgment of professionals:

“…defendants at all times acted reasonably and with a good faith belief that their actions were lawful and not in violation of any federal or state constitutional right,” wrote assistant city lawyer Patrick Blood.

Rightfully so, Jackson and his legal team disagree.

“Mr. Jackson was involuntarily restrained by the defendants in the hospital to facilitate the illegal colonoscopy to which he was then subjected,” the lawsuit states.

Janesville, WI — Kids attempting to assert their dominance and learn social boundaries will often times resort to physical altercations. These altercations are inevitable and up until recently, were broken up by teachers on the schoolyard, parents in the neighborhood, or peers if no one else is around. Now however, these often harmless altercations between feuding teens, quickly turn violent for those involved — not because kids are becoming more violent — but police show up and treat the children like target practice for an MMA fight.

As the following case illustrates, even 16-year-old girls are not safe from cops “just doing their jobs.”

Last month, Angelina Nelson was having an argument with another girl. Because Americans have been taught to call the police in almost every situation, officer Glen Hagemen was summoned to the scene.

When Hagemen arrived on the scene, there was no physical fight and Nelson was merely engaged in a verbal altercation with another girl. Letting her emotions get the best of her, instead of listening to Hageman telling them to stop yelling, Nelson pushed the other girl. This gave Hagemen free rein to enact potentially deadly violence against the child half his size.

Instead of simply stepping in between the two small girls, officer Hagemen felt it necessary to body slam Nelson into the pavement. Had he simply showed an ounce of bravery and stepped in between to girls who were merely pushing each other, the incident would have likely been easily resolved without anyone being injured. That’s a headline from — where else? — The New York Times, Monday morning edition. The paper no longer prints news stories, it releases DNC talking points, such as this one referring to conspiracy theories, one of their faves. The catch, of course, is: when an organization, say, the Democratic Party, meddles in election vote tabulation, you have…what? A plan acted on by a group to do something unlawful. That would be… a conspiracy. They surely had the motive and, apparently, the means. You can play rhetorical games with the theory part, but then there’s the evidence trail, and how it comports with reality. The word theory, you see is not a synonym for a falsehood — as they pretend it is. Many theories are proven true.

An eerie silence oppressed the election news-space much of last week as Mr. Trump and his people seemed to lay low, Br’er Rabbit style, and a lot of folks wondered what was going on in that-there briar patch. Towards the weekend, Rudolf Giuliani methodically described some of the evidence at hand about janky ballot reporting, but that must have been too plodding for the Big Media gang. Then another Trump lawyer, Sidney Powell, came on Lou Dobbs’s Friday evening news show and some people started paying attention to some things she said, like, “I’m going to release the kraken” — referring to the largest and most feared sea monster in Old Norse mythology. Miz Powell, she means bidness. She went on, “We have staggering statistical evidence; we have staggering personal testimony… we’re beginning to collect evidence on the financial interest of the governors and secretaries of state who bought into the Dominion [vote tabulation] systems… President Trump won this election in a landslide, it is irrefutable… we are gonna go after it, and I am going to expose every one of them.”

Well, that might have put the fear of Gawd in some people.
