LAKEWOOD, Colo. – A 26-year-old man is suing multiple Lakewood police officers and alleging they ordered a K-9 to attack him while he slept at his home, leaving him with severe cuts across his throat that nearly killed him.

Spencer Erickson’s attorneys filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court of Colorado in Denver on Friday. 

The suit – which also alleged the K-9 had previously attacked a Lakewood officer during training – named the City of Lakewood, along with the officers involved in the incident: Ryan O’Hayre, Edward Baggs, Justin Richards, Kennadee Bleak, Matthew Christensen, John Terrana.

The suit accused the officers of sending a K-9 into Erickson’s bedroom on Sept. 21, 2018, with orders to attack Erickson.

Lakewood police declined to comment on the lawsuit Friday, saying they couldn’t speak about pending litigation. A police report of the incident was not immediately available: Lakewood police asked for Denver7 to submit a Colorado Open Records Request, in writing and in person, to receive the report in 7-10 business days. Typically, police reports are emailed or delivered to media within hours of a request.

The officers were at Erickson’s home to arrest him on “low-level non-violent warrants,” including failing to appear in court on DUI and criminal mischief charges, the lawsuit said.

It wasn’t akin to the US recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights, but on Saturday US President Trump extended an election gesture to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu when he tweeted that he would meet the prime minister later this month and discuss an Israel-US security pact.

“I had a call today with Prime Minister Netanyahu to discuss the possibility of moving forward with a Mutual Defense Treaty, between the United States and Israel, that would further anchor the tremendous alliance between our two countries,” Trump tweeted. “I look forward to continuing those discussions after the Israeli Elections when we meet at the United Nations later this month!” 

Netanyahu responded by tweeting back to Trump: “Thank you my dear friend President @realDonaldTrump. The Jewish State has never had a greater friend in the White House.”

Netanyahu, depending on the outcome of Tuesday election, is expected to attend the UN General Assembly – which Trump will also attend – that begins one week later on September 24.

Last March, some two weeks before the April 9 election, Trump recognized Israel’s control over the Golan Heights in a move that was widely seen as being timed to boost Netanyahu at the polls.

Officials have said that Netanyahu had hoped for a gesture from the president this time as well, and Saturday’s tweet appears to be what Trump is presently willing to give.

While the idea of a US-Israel defense pact has been discussed on and off for several decades, it has re-emerged in recent months. Sen. Update 2: In a sharp, if perhaps not unexpected, escalation, US Secretary of State – now without John Bolton by his side – tweeted at 4pm on Saturday, that contrary to earlier reports, “there is no evidence the attacks came from Yemen” and instead accused Iran of launching today’s “unprecedented attack on the world’s energy supply” which has now indefinitely taken offline as much as 5mmb/d in Saudi crude production. 

In a follow up tweet, Pompeo said that he calls “on all nations to publicly and unequivocally condemn Iran’s attacks” which is odd as not even Saudi Arabia accused Iran of today’s aggression (which many speculated could have been a Saudi false flag in hopes of sending the price of oil soaring ahead of the Aramco IPO). Pompeo concluded that “the United States will work with our partners and allies to ensure that energy markets remain well supplied and Iran is held accountable for its aggression.”

Will this pivot away from Houthis to Iran as the “origin” of the attack be sufficient grounds to re-inflame tensions between the US and Iran, especially following last week’s news that one of the reasons Bolton was fired was due to his hard-line stance on Iran even as Trump was willing to sit down with the Tehran regime for negotiations.
