The United States may review its ties
with countries it deems as being anti-Israel after what a U.S. envoy
said on Sunday was a shift in policy toward equating anti-Zionism with
anti-Semitism.
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo
said in a March speech that anti-Zionism – opposition to Israel’s
existence as a homeland for the Jewish people – was a form of
anti-Semitism, or hostility toward Jews, that was on the rise worldwide
and that Washington would “fight it relentlessly”.
The State Department’s special envoy
for monitoring and combating anti-Semitism, Elan Carr, said this U.S.
position could spell reviews of ties with foreign governments or
leaders.
“The United States is willing to review
its relationship with any country, and certainly anti-Semitism on the
part of a country with whom we have relations is a deep concern,” he
told Reuters during a visit to Israel.
“I will be raising that issue in
bilateral meetings that I am undertaking all over the world,” he said.
“That is something we are going to have frank and candid conversations
about – behind closed doors.”
Carr declined to cite specific countries or leaders, or to elaborate on what actions the Trump administration might take.
“I obviously can’t comment on
diplomatic tools that we might bring to bear,” he said. “Each country is
a different diplomatic challenge, a different situation, number one.
And number two, if I started disclosing what we might do it would be
less effective.”
Some U.S. political analysts say that
President Donald Trump and other Republicans hope support for Israel
will attract Jewish voters, including those disaffected by
pro-Palestinian voices within progressive Democratic Party circles.
At the same time, critics have credited
Trump’s confrontational, nationalistic rhetoric with encouraging
right-wing extremists and feeding a surge in activity by American hate
groups. The administration has flatly rejected that charge.
Carr said the administration’s equating
of anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism “certainly breaks new ground … by
making clear that something that a lot of us who are involved in the
Jewish world and a lot of us who are proponents of a strong U.S.-Israel
relationship have known for quite some time, and that is that one of the
chief flavors of anti-Semitism in the world today is the flavor that

The US Constitution makes clear that war declaration is a power exclusively of Congress. Yet earlier this year, both houses of Congress spoke on the Yemen War, declaring it unauthorized and demanding its end. President Trump vetoed that resolution, and insisted the war keeps going.
But can Trump just do that? Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), the initial sponsor of the Yemen bill, is hoping to challenge that in the Supreme Court, arguing that the nature of the War Powers Act precludes presidential vetoes.
It’s not an unreasonable question to ask the court. The 1952 Steel Seizure Case similarly saw the Supreme Court rejecting a president’s claim of unilateral power as the head of the military in wartime, and Trump is arguing that this same power entitles him to veto the War Powers challenge. The US EPA has just proposed to re-approve glyphosate, the main component of the widely-used Roundup pesticide marketed by Monsanto, now part of Bayer AG of Germany. The original web link to the EPA ruling, strangely enough, yields the message as of this writing: “Sorry, but this web page is not available for viewing right now.”
This makes detailed critique a bit more difficult. However, certain facts can be stated. First, the specific part of EPA making the ruling, its Pesticide Regulatory Office, according to GMO watchdog website Sustainable Pulse, is long known for ruling in favor of the chemicals industry, even using industry data to approve. They maintain that that was also the case here, with the EPA relying heavily on industry tests, not their own or other independent studies. Many of those studies have been proven false or badly biased, including that of the European Union’s EFSA.
Second, the EPA body chose to dismiss the 2015 determination of the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), that determined glyphosate to be a “probable carcinogen,” a ruling that Monsanto has fiercely tried to deny despite mounting evidence.
Third, and most blatant, the latest EPA ruling ignored an earlier determination of another US Government body, the US Department of Health and Human Services’ Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry that agreed with the IARC that there was a link between glyphosate and certain types of cancer. its a mystery to me how 'consumers' can believe all of the crap their tv 'news' spews in our direction. kunstler herein explores some of that 'news' and comes to some conclusions half of the country won't like. i've been of the opinion for some time that we haven't had an actual president since the cia killed jfk, and this article might cause some to join me in that though;

There are only stories — his story, her story, they’s story, zhe’s story, and you must believe them because they come out of lived experience — for instance the lived experience of having lost a sure-thing presidential election to a cartoon character with zero political experience, and then having lost the grand inquisition to oust him. For the PDRs, the metaphysical concept of reality refers to some land of dark make-believe over a distant horizon where numbers supposedly add up (ha!) and the actions of persons are said to entail a strange cosmic condition known as consequence.
Now that the Mueller Investigation has concluded empty of charges — despite two-plus-years of sedulous effort by fiercely dedicated antagonists of its target — everything about it, including the sacred Mueller Report, begins to emit odious vapors like unto a rump roast that has laid uncovered in a pantry for three weeks, attracting the attention of flies. The PDRs might think twice about a closer examination of all that festering material.
