Oklahoma City, OK — Disturbing body camera footage
was released this week showing how normal childhood acts can and will
lead to children being shot by police. Boys being boys is apparently now
a reason for deadly force in the land of the free.
Lorenzo Clerkley, 14, was playing with his friends two months ago
when Oklahoma City police officer Kyle Holcomb put two bullets in him.
Lorenzo was playing with friends in an abandoned house
and he was also playing with toy guns with his other friends, but this
was no reason for a cop to open fire—especially when the cop knew the
boys were playing with toy guns.
“Everything happened so quick,” Cherelle Lee, Lorenzo’s mother told
CNN. “There was no reason he should’ve fired off anyway just because he
could’ve ended up taking his life.”
Despite body camera footage showing how fast the officer was to open
fire on a child he knew was playing with a “cap gun,” and despite the
lack of evidence that Lorenzo was even holding a toy gun when he was
shot, Holcomb has returned to full duty after a brief paid vacation.
As the video shows, as the officer walks along the fence, faint pops are heard in the distance. Holcomb then gets on the radio, saying, “I think it’s a cap gun, but they are shooting something off.”
The fact that the kids were heard shooting the toy guns in the house
proves they had no idea anyone had called police on them and no idea
that police were there.
When Holcomb walks up to a portion of the fence that is missing
boards, he points his gun through it for just a few seconds before
opening fire.
“Show me your hands! Drop it!” Holcomb says and then immediately
begins firing without allowing Lorenzo any time to respond. Lorenzo was

US President Donald Trump made it loud
and clear that he wants Saudi Arabia to pay more at a rally in Wisconsin
on Saturday 27 April, reports the Daily Caller. The ardent champion of
democracy said that he likes the Saudi leader, but the oil-rich Kingdom
needs to pay more, considering that Washington ensures the personal
protection of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and his son Mohammed bin
Salman: “Look, Saudi Arabia, very rich country, we defend them, we
subsidize Saudi Arabia. They have nothing but cash, right? … And they
buy a lot from us, $450 billion they bought.”
It should be said that American society
is clearly divided into two unequal parts when it comes to US relations
with the Kingdom. After the CIA released statements about the key role
played by the Crown Prince who could be the next Saudi King in the
brutal murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Turkey, Donald Trump said
that the United States would be “foolish” to call off arms deals with
Saudi Arabia. At the same time, Trump noted “it could very well be that
the Crown Prince had knowledge” of the plan to kill Jamal Khashoggi in
advance, but the United States, or rather the President of the United
States, intends to remain a “steadfast partner” of Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Congress members have
criticized Donald Trump for acting as a Saudi protégé, and insist that
the Saudi rulers should not only be punished for the brutal murder of
Jamal Khashoggi, but also for the unprovoked bombing of neighboring
Yemen, which has killed tens of thousands of innocent Yemenis, including
many children and elderly people. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab
Emirates have laid Yemen to waste, but they are still a long way off
victory, writes international policy specialist Michael Horton in his
article in The American Conservative. The country’s infrastructure has
been left in ruins and the most strategic regions are occupied by the
invaders, yet after four years of war, Yemen has become a new “Vietnam”
for troops from Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Both monarchies have spent
billions of dollars and pumped significant military resources into what
eventually turned into a military quagmire of catastrophic proportions,
and the intervention has only served to strengthen the legitimacy of the
Houthis and Iran’s position behind them.

If they believe at all that a war is necessary, they no doubt base their judgment on the perception that the United States must maintain its number one position in the world by occasionally attacking and defeating someone to serve as an example of what might happen if one defies Washington. Understanding that, the Iranians would be wise to avoid confrontation until the sages in the White House move on to some easier target, which at the moment would appear to be Venezuela.
The influence of Israel over US foreign policy is undeniable, with Washington now declaring that it will “review ties” with other nations that are considered to be unfriendly to the Jewish state. For observers who might also believe that Israel and its allies in the US are the driving force behind America’s belligerency in the Middle East, there are possibly some other games that are in play, all involving Benjamin Netanyahu and his band of merry cutthroats. Imagine if Congress were to enact a law that required everyone to attend church on Sundays. The overwhelming majority of Americans would go up in arms. The concept of religious liberty is so deeply ingrained in our American heritage that there is no way that people, including devout Christians, would accept such a law. That heritage was enshrined in the First Amendment, which prohibits Congress from enacting such a law.
Now, suppose things had been the exact opposite. Suppose that from the beginning, the Constitution had authorized Congress to enact compulsory church-attendance laws. Suppose that immediately after the Constitution called the federal government into existence, Congress had enacted a law requiring parents to send their children to church, in order to be educated on religious, moral, ethical, and Biblical principles. Suppose that we had been living with that national compulsory church-attendance law for the entire history of the United States.
Now suppose we libertarians were to advocate the repeal of the church-attendance law, which would enable families to decide for themselves whether to send their children to church or not. Can you imagine the outcry?

How could we be certain that children would receive the right education and training when it comes to morality, ethics, and religion? We thought of the United States and our life here much differently. But with the passage of time the difference between life in the Soviet Union in the 20th century and life in the Western world today is disappearing. Today, the journalist Julian Assange is undergoing the same kind of state terror and torture as any Soviet dissident, if not worse. The Western media is as controlled as the Soviet media, with print, TV, and public radio serving as a propaganda ministry for government and the interest groups that control government. Social media, such as Facebook and Twitter are systematically denying their platforms to those who express views not supportive of the ruling order and its agendas. It has turned out to be easy to get rid of the First Amendment guarantee of free speech as the media have neither the ability nor the intention of exercising it.
It was a mistake for my generation to associate Orwell’s Memory Hole and falsified history only with fictional or real dystopias. Falsified history was all around us. We just didn’t know enough to spot it. What living and learning has taught me is that history tends to always be falsified, and historians who insist on the truth suffer for it. It has been established that many of the ancient historians are unreliable, because they were “court historians” who sought material benefit by writing to please a ruler. In my time many an historian has written for income from book sales by enthralling the public with tales of glorious victories over demonized enemies that justified all the sons, grandsons, brothers, fathers, uncles, husbands, friends, and cousins who were sacrificed for the sake of capitalist armaments profits. No publisher wanted a truthful account that no one would buy because of the stark portrayal of the pointlessness of the deaths of loved ones.
