Yesterday, President Trump, yielding to the overwhelming power of the
Pentagon, CIA, and NSA, announced that he has decided to keep U.S.
troops in Syria indefinitely, thereby abandoning his intention announced
last March to instead bring U.S. troops in Syria home. Of course,
keeping the troops in Syria has been the position that the U.S. national
security establishment has been demanding of Trump since the beginning
of his presidency, especially since that increases the risk of
confrontation with Russia, the decades-old enemy and rival of the U.S.
national-security establishment.
What business does the U.S. government have in Syria? None. Just as
it has no business in countries like Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Vietnam,
Korea, Nicaragua, Grenada, Panama, and countless others. But that is
what life is like under a governmental structure in which the
military-intelligence establishment is in control. It calls the shots.
Everyone else — the president, the Congress, the judiciary, and the
American people — are expected to yield to its overwhelming power within
the federal governmental structure and within American society.
It’s worth recalling that the American people in the late 1700s were
ardently opposed to large, permanent military establishments. That’s why
the Constitution instead called into existence a type of government
known as a limited-government republic, one whose powers are few and
limited.
That all came to a screeching halt after World War II, when Americans
began living under a totally different type of governmental structure,
one that is known as a national-security state. It is characterized by a
massive, permanent, ever-growing military establishment, CIA, NSA, and a
national police force known as the FBI, all of whose powers together
are vast and unlimited, including the power of the government to
assassinate its own people.

I don’t have a problem with anonymous reports.
I have a huge problem with a permanent government bureaucracy, whether it is anti-Constitutional (as is the Deep State) or not.
The Second Republic will have a cap on “public service”.

The New York Times’s just published an anonymous op-ed from a “senior official” in the Trump administration. This self-righteous combination of clichéd anti-Trump tropes and arrogant moral preening puts the QED on the proof of the NeverTrumpers’ moral idiocy.
The stalest complaints involve Trump’s personality and style, although the only difference between Trump and, say, Lyndon Johnson is that Johnson with the help of the media knew that most of his vulgarisms and epithets would never be made public until he left office. And he wasn’t monitored 24/7 by a barrage of reports and images from internet news and blogs, hundreds of cable channels, and social media.
As for crudity and vulgarity, if you insurgent White House employees want vulgarity, just look around you. We are saturated with a culture of vulgarity, self-promotion, and crude sexualization. At least Trump hasn’t besmirched the White House with Clinton-style sexual antics, or like Obama brought foul-mouthed rappers who celebrate the murder of judges to socialize in the White House. But to Anonymous, the worst of Trump’s affronts is that he, with the help of deplorable uppity citizens, has “allowed our discourse to be stripped of civility.” This charge bespeaks an ignorance of the Constitution and its founders’ understanding of human nature. Given the variety and volume of colliding “passions and interests,” “civility” was a luxury. More important was protecting political freedom by preventing factions from joining forces to increase their power.
The catalogue of Trump’s shortcomings are stale, subjective epithets from nearly two-years of Trump-hating screeds, without any awareness that in terms of actions, progressives like Barack Obama have been much worse. For example, the brave anonymous resister says Trump’s behavior is “detrimental to the health of our republic.” Exactly how have excessive Tweeting, braggadocio, or insults of rivals done more damage to the Constitution’s separation of powers than Obama’s politicizing of the IRS, the EPA, two AGs, the Department of Education, the FBI, and the DOJ?

After that, of course, Trump blew Rubio away, and it was Trump who got $35 million from Adelson in the presidential race. The relationship hums along. Lately Adelson and his wife Miriam gave $55 million to Trump’s firewall against impeachment, Republican congressional campaigns.
And Trump’s shrewd assessment could not be more accurate. He is Adelson’s perfect little puppet.
All Trump’s major moves in the Middle East, from tearing up the Iran deal to moving the embassy to Jerusalem, to making the Foundation for Defense of Democracies his braintrust, to
elevating John Bolton to national security adviser and throwing out
realist Rex Tillerson at State, are moves that make Adelson happy. We
can just be thankful that Trump has not checked off every box on
Adelson’s wishlist, and nuked Iran.
Trump’s latest move, to defund UNRWA, the UN aid
organization for Palestinian refugees, is completely in line with
Adelson’s agenda. The 85-year-old casino mogul has long maintained there is no such thing as a Palestinian.
There’s no such thing as a Palestinian. Do you know what they are? The Palestinians call themselves southern Syrians. They were the Syrians who were left over from the district of Syria that was so named in the Ottoman Empire… There’s no such thing as a Palestinian people. They have fooled the world very successfully.

The whole thing has been held together by nothing but the confident-sounding assertions of pundits and politicians and sheer, mindless repetition. Last week the US warned of military strikes on Syria “if” government forces use chemical weapons (CW). This week, Trump comes clean by dropping any mention of a CW pretext – simply warning Syria not to attack terrorists.
Trump tweeted his warning to Syria, as well as its allied Russian and Iranian forces, to not launch a military offensive to retake control of the northwest province of Idlib. The area is the last remaining stronghold of illegally armed militant groups in Syria. It’s potentially the endgame to the nearly eight-year war.
On Monday, Trump said: “President Bashar al-Assad of Syria must not recklessly attack Idlib Province. The Russians and Iranians would be making a grave humanitarian mistake to take part in this potential human tragedy.”
The US’ top general, Joseph Dunford, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, also reiterated seeming anxiety for humanitarian casualties, calling for a “tailored operation.”
So, alleged chemical weapons are no longer part of the US rationale. It’s basically: don’t make any military move. The American president added that “hundreds of thousands of lives” could be lost if Syria and its allies move to rid the province of an estimated 10,000 militants among a civilian population of three million.
Trump’s apparent “humanitarian” concern seems alarmist, if not cynical. When did he articulate similar misgivings when US air forces were pounding Raqqa to bits last year, causing thousands of civilian deaths?

Consider also whether a member of a conspiracy working “diligently” inside the administration with “many of the senior officials” to “preserve our democratic institutions while thwarting” Trump’s “worst inclinations” would thwart his and his fellow co-conspirators’ plot by revealing it!
This forgery is an attempt to break up the Trump administration by creating suspicion throughout the senior level. If Trump falls for the New York Times’ deception, a house cleaning is likely to take place wherever suspicion falls. A government full of mutual suspicion cannot function.
