Book-lovers are furious at Anthropic for scanning and shredding countless old volumes. Their ravenous Beast Machine was hungry for aged memes, so the AI company harvested old-school language from a billion yellowing pages, uploaded them to use as training data, and then destroyed the brittle remains. Anthropic outsourced their literary holocaust—dubbed “Project Panama”—to a book-mulching company called IBSNdb, which specializes in transforming physical tomes into digital text.

This outrage serves as a small, concave mirror that reflects a much larger process. AI consumes culture on an industrial scale. It’s a form of memetic vampirism. Human artwork is sucked out of our collective neck, along with the uploaded details of our lives, our communications, our affinities and aversions, and quite often, our innermost thoughts. Vampire bots rake over all this data, remix it, reinterpret it, hallucinate a few novel details, then feed it back to us as memetic slop.

These AI vampires have been invited into our schools, medical facilities, global corporations, government agencies, military command centers, and most consequentially, into a billion smartphones, producing swarms of dead-eyed, bloodthirsty zombies shambling into the streets from their virtual graveyards............ more.............

The Failure of Russia and Iran to Recognize Existential Threats Are Leading to Nuclear War

Since the beginning of Washington’s use of Ukraine as the proxy for Washington’s war against Russia, I have made the point that Putin’s limited and restrained response to an existential threat is reality-denying and unrealistic.  Russia is under  direct strategic assault and Putin has refused to recognize this fact and to respond appropriately.

Gilbert Doctorow and John Helmer have joined me in this conclusion, and now comes Phil Butler writing in Global Research.  Butler concludes:

“The thesis of what you are about to read is simple and uncompromising: the era of the “limited war” is a Western fantasy. If Moscow is to survive this existential proxy assault, it cannot respond with half-measures or symmetrical restraint. What Putin’s beating around the bush is leading to is rising escalation ending in nuclear war.

Roger Waters Describes the Israel Lobby’s Efforts to Destroy His Career

Waters got in trouble, as did President Jimmy Carter, for speaking out against against Israeli Apartheid.  Waters moral conscience should be appreciated.  It cost him a lot.

It is not clear from Waters’ statements that he understands that Israel’s crime goes far beyond its construction of an Apartheid state. Apartheid has become an euphemism for genocide. 

Israel has destroyed Palestine in two ways.  The land of Palestine was absorbed into Israel piece by piece over 79 years.  And now the remnants of the Palestinian people in what’s left of Gaza and the West Bank are being driven out or exterminated.  Israel destroyed Palestine by violence as Rome destroyed Carthage.
