The police state is growing, and with it, so is the amount of aggression and force used against citizens who have not committed any actual harm to others.

It is concerning that many police officers seem to prioritize their own interests over the safety and well-being of citizens. As a result, there have been numerous cases of police brutality and misconduct, including unnecessary use of force and even fatalities. This has further eroded trust between law enforcement and the communities they are supposed to serve.

Furthermore, the police have a financial incentive to make arrests and generate revenue for the state, often at the expense of the rights and dignity of individuals. Many officers engage in tactics such as fishing for information and coercing confessions from individuals who may not fully understand their rights or who feel intimidated by the authority of law enforcement.

It is important to hold law enforcement accountable for their actions and to demand reform that prioritizes the protection and rights of all citizens. This can include advocating for increased transparency and accountability, as well as pushing for changes in policing tactics and training that prioritize de-escalation and community engagement.

These issues are why it is so important to always assert your 5th Amendment right to remain silent during police interactions, especially given the fact that many police officers are not very good at their jobs and need the help and participation of citizens to do their job effectively. This is particularly evident in the fact that roughly 90% of all arrests are self-incriminated. If the police can legally charge you with information they have gathered without your help, then let them try, but most of the time they require your help to incriminate yourself. By simply not talking, you have a 90% less chance of going to jail. By invoking your right to remain silent, you can protect yourself from self-incrimination and others around you who might be with you; talking can also incriminate other people like passengers and even your friends..........more......

Below is my column in the Hill on the Tennessee controversy over the expulsion of two Tennessee legislators. Liberal members and pundits have lionized the two legislators who shutdown the proceedings while declaring the GOP “fascists.” The controversy perfectly captured our increasingly amplified age of rage.

Here is the column:

Nobel Laureate Albert Camus once said, “Insurrection is certainly not the sum total of human experience but … it is our historic reality.” Those words came to mind this week when Tennessee’s House of Representatives expelled two members accused of disrupting legislative proceedings in what some called an “insurrection” or a “mutiny.”

The scene on the floor of the Tennessee House perfectly captured our “age of rage.” Protesters filled the capitol building to protest the failure to pass gun-control legislation. However, they were in the minority in both the state and its legislature. Three Democratic state representatives — Justin Jones from Nashville, Justin Pearson from Memphis, and Gloria Johnson of Knoxville — were unwilling to yield to the majority. They disrupted the floor proceedings with a bullhorn and screaming at their colleagues.

It is a scene familiar to many of us in academia, where events are regularly canceled by those who shout down others. The three members yelled “No action, no peace” and “Power to the people” as their colleagues objected to their stopping the legislative process. Undeterred, the three refused to allow “business as usual” to continue.

Nothing says deliberative debate like a bullhorn. American politics, it seems, has become a matter of simple amplification.

Many on the left lionized the three for their disruption of the legislature. President Biden denounced the sanctioning of their “peaceful protest” as “shocking, undemocratic, and without precedent.”..........more.......

How do you bankrupt a business?

That’s easy. Use the money you earn selling things that are profitable to fund money-losing “investments” and then stop selling the things that pay for those “investments –  until you run out of money.

At which point the wheels come off and that’s the end of the ride.

Ram truck’s CEO Mike Koval, Jr. didn’t quite say it that way the other day – at the press reveal for the device styled the 2024 REV, the battery-powered version of the Ram pick-up that will supposedly replace it.

But he did say this:

“The cost of electrification is expensive, so for sure we need to make sure we protect the profitability of our current in-market business” – the reference here is to vehicles like the Ram pick-up that earn money for the company  – “to help fund the transition to electrification.”

Italics added. And there you have it. A kind of loopy preemptive funeral oration for a viable business that isn’t dead yet but will be, soon.

“We’re here to celebrate and talk about” the REV, Koval said. “But it’s expensive. That’s the elephant in the room for everybody.” Yes – and he’s about to trample Koval and everyone else within  . . . what’s the right word?........more.......
