Intelligence breakdown: How Russian security foiled the attack

Russia’s Federal Security Service announced Friday it had prevented a large-scale terrorist attack targeting the Rostov-Centralny military airfield in the Rostov Region, seizing 13 Ukrainian AI-powered drones allegedly smuggled into the country by Kyiv’s military intelligence agency.

The planned target was an airfield where Ukrainian military intelligence sought to damage aircraft and kill personnel, the FSB said. Each drone carried an improvised explosive device with a yield equivalent to more than 1 kilogram of TNT and featured artificial intelligence-based targeting systems designed to overcome electronic countermeasures.

The operation unraveled when the Russian citizen recruited to carry out the attack voluntarily approached regional FSB offices and reported the plot. He then cooperated with investigators, allowing security officers to deceive Ukrainian handlers into delivering the drones and transferring an advance payment equal to 20% of the promised fee. EDMONTON — Elections Alberta says it’s set to begin verifying the signatures on a petition looking to force a vote on the province separating from Canada.

The petition was submitted in early May, but just two weeks later a judge quashed it after ruling the petition was out of line with provincial law and that First Nations needed to be consulted.

But last week the group behind the petition earned a partial win in court when another judge ruled the signature verification process should take place while the original ruling is appealed.

Elections Alberta says the boxes of petition sheets have been stored in locked cabinets and monitored by security guards, and that it is to publish the results by July 27.

Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna of California said soldiers with the Israel Defense Forces joined Israeli settlers with American-made rifles in blockading him for over an hour during a trip to the West Bank earlier this week.

Speaking with CNN on Saturday, Khanna called on the Israeli government to prosecute the IDF soldiers and the settlers.

The incident followed a visit to an elementary school that was destroyed by extremist Israeli settlers, Khanna said.

“I see these young men brandishing M4s, circling, circling our vans, cursing us out in Hebrew and Arabic, which I didn’t understand, and filming us, laughing at us, wiping our windows while doing that, blockading us,” Khanna said.

The congressman said he and his team then contacted the US Embassy and waited for IDF soldiers. But when four IDF soldiers arrived at the scene, they sided with the settlers, Khanna claimed.
