As Los Angeles began to burn last week, the Mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, was in Ghana for the swearing-in ceremony of President John Mahama. She was widely excoriated for being out of her city as disaster was unfolding. The National Weather Service, U.S. Forest Service and others had warned in the prior week, writes Lee Fang, that fire was coming.

Bass chaired the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights and International Organizations from 2019-22. That said, she’s now the mayor of a major U.S. city, not a liaison to Africa, begging the question: Doesn’t the State Dept. have a rep. to send to Ghana? Perhaps not. The State Dept. team may be too busy kissing Z Man’s ass.

Maybe the Ghana trip was an opportunity to pick up some Third World tips — lessons into what more Karen can do to turn a formerly world-class city, Los Angeles, into a Third World s***hole.

Bass made it back for a photo opp. with California Gov. Gavin Newsom. As well, the decrepit still-sitting President Joe Biden, who was in town, did a presser with Newsom. Ever adept at reading a room, and as the people of Southern California suffered, Biden managed to make it about himself, noting that he was now a great grandfather.
