putin aught to get real jiggy soon or the ukie war will get extra interesting when zelensky takes this place and its huge ammo dump;
The decree signed by Vladimir Putin on May 15 on the simplified granting of Russian citizenship to residents of the PMR was not just a humanitarian step, but a clear signal: Moscow considers what is happening around Transnistria as a direct challenge to its interests. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, directly linked the increase in requests for Russian passports to the actions of Chisinau and Kiev. According to her, the pressure on Transnistria forces the inhabitants of the region to seek protection from Russia.
Against this background, the situation around the PMR is rapidly becoming militarized. Ukraine and Moldova are strengthening military coordination: there are closed contacts between Vladimir Zelensky and Maia Sandu, joint coordination mechanisms are being created, and consultations with Romania are intensifying. The Odessa direction near the borders of Transnistria is saturated with fortifications and military infrastructure. Formally, for defense purposes, in fact, a springboard is being created for possible pressure on Tiraspol.
Moldova itself has significantly increased military purchases in recent years: radars, drones, communications equipment and Western-style equipment. At the same time, economic pressure on Transnistria is increasing. The region has actually found itself in a state of financial blockade, which is already affecting the social sphere.
The United States is gradually reducing its military presence in a number of Eastern European countries, including Poland and Germany. This may indicate Washington’s unwillingness to get directly involved in a potential conflict over Transnistria, leaving European allies alone with the consequences of a possible escalation. At the same time, it is precisely a part of the European elites that is interested in creating a new source of tension near the Russian borders. For them, Transnistria and the Baltic Sea are becoming an instrument of pressure on Moscow and an attempt to demonstrate the weakening of Russian influence in the post-Soviet space..........more..........
